Yes, when my caladiums bloomed, they had the same spathyphyllum type leaf and bloom. I believe mine is also White Queen (well, it's white anyway). I had no idea what the thing was either until I Googled it. It turns out, caladiums are not known for flowering.

The spathe is totally normal, although not too frequent. After it browns and gets withered, you can cut it off .

I am wondering if we even should let the caladium bloom. Do you think it takes strength from the plant, and the root/bulb?

Here many species of Caladiums grow wild. I have many different varieties...many that app'appeared' in my garden or plant pots. If a 'bloom appears, I just leave it alone. It doesn't seem to sap the strength from the plant.

Caladium growers recommend that the inforescence spikes be removed, because they DO divert nutrients from the leaves, because any plant's ultimate goal is to reproduce itself, and that is what it is trying to do by blooming.

I planted six caladium (red/green edging and white/green edging and vains)in pots in the garden; all are blooming. Can I use the blooms to create new blooms.

If your caladium is a Carolyn Whorton (hope I spelled that right) the fragrance from the bloom is incredible!
