Here in Georgia, They say to leave them in until just before the first frost. If the vines are killed by frost, it will affect the taste and quality of the potatoes. If the weather guy predicts frost, get 'em out.

I planted a sweet potato slip around the end of May, and now my sweet potato vines are about to take over my whole backyard! They're already hugging my grape tomato plant and trying to escape through my wood picket gate. I thought we're supposed to dig them up once the vines die back, but they keep growing longer and longer. I can tell where the ground is bulging up that I have some 'taters down there...I may just steal a peek and see if they're ready...

How long will it take to grow sweetpotatoes in a trough on a balcony in St Petersburg, Russia? We have 13 1/2 hrs daylight now, building to 20 out of 24 by July. members of our team are from Ga and Tx and are hungry for a taste of home.

Somehow I ended up on another post regarding SP's, but my question still is: Can you actually place a SP in a plastic container such as a 2 liter coke bottle full of water and reap a vine of potatoes, and the 2nd part of this question is, what variety is the one basically for just flowering, and can you do the same as above w/the bottle, and what is the difference in the planting and growing process? Am truly interested, and desire to attempt both of the above if possible. Thanks in advance for your response. Marsha
