fig trading anyone?

Hello All!

Being this time a yr, I figured Id post up a new thread title for trading to make life easier for those of us who have cuttings to give away or possibly trade.

I ONLY have one variety (which is an unknown no less) to offer. I chopped up my fig tree today and have quite a few cuttings to offer anyone who is interested. IMO, I think my tree is a Sal's or very close to it anyway. This past season was the first real crop I got from it! I got approximately 60-80 figs, in small to medium size which I thought were tasty lil figs but I am a fig rookie so ymmv. :D

While Im posting, ID like to send a BIG THANK YOU to Gorgi (George) who I finally met over the weekend to trade my lil unknown with one or two of his treasures. Well, I gotta tell ya walking in his backyard was like walking into fig heaven. He had a BUNCH of fig trees in all varieties growing inground and pots all over. He surprised me with his generosity by offering me FIVE different varieties all of which were potted with roots!!!

So again I wanna say THANK YOU George, I really appreciate it and hope to pay you back in the near future when my fig crop/varities continue to grow.

With that said, if someone has a variety that they'd like to share or let me experiment with by growing it here in the NNJ area, please do contact me ASAP.

I have achieved the fig lover's dream: I now have a fig named after me. The unidentified bush that I dug up from my father's old home in Atlanta turned out to be some kind of mega-producing variety, probably in the Magnolia family. Four-ounce brebas were normal. I even had a six-ouncer once. Paradise Nursery is now selling plants from the cuttings I supplied and they're being called "Jack Thomas' Quarte Pounder." You can Google "Jack Thomas fig" even without the quotation marks, and you get the site at the top of the page. Pretty neat, huh?

Here is a link that might be useful: Jack Thomas' Quarter Pounder

HI Jack, I just read about your fig, it sounds great and I would like to hear more about it. Just where in GA are you located. DAN

Georgia_Jack: I'd like to know where you are located and get a cutting from you. I'm in central S. Carolina. I have an unknown variety of fig tree (just found it growing on it's own) very hardy and great bearer. Be glad to send you cutting when you want them..... Judy B

If possible, please post some pics of the leaves. That fig looks very familiar. Thanks. FF

FF- is your question for Ga Jack?

Well, this fall seasons fig trading is really working out nicely for me!!!

So far I have gained the following varieties:
    Hardy Chicago
    Lyndhurst White
    Brooklyn White
    Violette de Bordeaux
    (George)Unknown
    Black Mission
    Petite Negronne

Considering I only had ONE unknown species Im pretty excited about next spring already!!!

Next yr should be fun!!! :)

Where did you get the Brooklyn White? I have been looking to get a cutting for a while. Its funny because I work in Brooklyn too.

I have a lot of semi rooted Desert King as well as some Negronne, Conadria and Violet De Bordeaux. I need cool tolerant figs that ripen fairly early. Figs do good for me but the yellow jackets are a pest. I'd like to fine some other odd figs for cooler regions.

ejp- sorry I missed this thread for the past two weeks. I recieved my cutting from another member on the forum here. (read my first post!)

boizeau- Im not sure if that offer is directed at me or not???
My unknown ripened this yr (its first yr really) in the 2-3rd week of Sept. Im not sure if that will change as it matures.

I still have some cuttings (about a dozen) available!

I hope this post is not against the forum rules!

    For persiancat_gardener

I have been trying to access your web site today but the link looks more like an email address rather than a web address so I cannot get to it. Also, I get an error message when I attempt to email you.
I live in Orangeburg also and have a several unknown (but great) fig plants in pots available now at no charge.
If you like, send me an email.
