Four nights below freezing predicted

Brr! According to my 10 day forecast, overnight temps will not be above freezing until Saturday night. At least the plants are all well watered thanks to the recent rains.

If you've left any tender plants out so far, be sure to bring them back in for this spell.

Yes, my husband alerted me last night and I had to go out (in my pjs) and put the remaining potted plants in the garage. They are hardy, but I worry about potted plants out in that kind of cold.

    Only 2 more days.
Then it will be much warmer for a while.

My place saw 15º around 07:30 today. May be the coldest temp of the winter; time will tell.

I had to move a few things under cover too. I bottomed out at 16 this morning. Noon today brought an end to a string of 21 consecutive hours at or below freezing!

I sorta feel you could be right Alex. This may be our coldest all winter.

I remember one year, maybe 1999, that went down to 13º or 14º at the beginning of January. It was the coldest that year. I can't go out and check anything until Saturday. The days are still so short!

I went south for New Year's and arrived home late yesterday.
After checking the forecast, I was out with a flashlight gathering potted plants from Australia & S Africa that probably wouldn't have survived the 15°overnight temperatures.
But my Hostas are loving every minute of the frigid temperatures!
There were a lot of evergreen plants that had foliage on the ground this morning, but they will revive when the temperatures moderate. Just sorry about all of the Camellia
blooms that will be brown in a day or so.

I'm glad for the cold. Last year was too warm.

Here comes around round of below freezing nights - looks like 3 nights this time. And chilly days to go with it. Time for big pots of homemade soup!

I need to get my winter sowing started. We've been working so hard on getting the house set up now that we're back in, I haven't had the chance (that and of course broken foot has prohibited much gardening...). All this cold weather and I'm missing it!!

Did anyone see the fine print? 50% chance of rain AND SNOW on Thursday night!
If it does snow, I hope it's over before the morning rush hour on Friday! I'm heading for Callaway Gardens on Friday morning for the Southern Gardening Symposium and even snow showers during that time, around here, will make the trip a nightmarish event!
Any measure or form of precipitation is welcome, however!

Actually the best you can hope for is for snow accumulation then schools and many businesses will close leaving the roads wide open to callaway gdns.
So many things have to go right for that to happen though.

My Chamomile got nipped pretty bad.
WHat is strange is, some got no frost damage, and some did. None the less they will come back. I hope we get a mild rest of the winter so I Can start my spring garden early

It did not appear to get below freezing last night, but tonight and tomorrow night are slated to be 26 and 24 respectively. Then a brief warm up and then down to 17 on Saturday the 19th!

    Time to empty the birdbaths.

georgia-rose, do let us know what you think of the Southern Gardening symposium. Sounds like a full weekend!

If you leave the water in the bird baths the birds can go ice skating.
