I have had good luck growing malabar. And had it reseed itself. I say plant away, only way to know. Good Luck!

I have great luck with it. Sometimes it reseeds like mad, grows and then fades away again, so I just plant more. I do not like to eat it raw, as it is mucilaginous in the way okra is, however it is delicious lightly cooked. My favorite way is in scrambled eggs with tomato and fresh green onions from the garden. Yummy!
Use a MUCH larger trellis than the one pictured on Walter Reeves site. In our church garden I use a taller (5' or so) tomato cage. At home I like to use the garden entrance arbor. Very pretty vine.

I love it, it is slow germinating, it's great that it doesn't require the amount of washing the regular spinach does. I second the mucilaginous part, but don't let that deter you. I have not tried freezing it, it sure is great to have with all the other summer veggies. I have had it take down the trellis, it was hard to keep up with.

Try the Ace Hardware on Scott Blvd, or a Whole Foods. Whole Foods carry BOtanical Interest who have it.
