I would wait several months - then that will put you into the warmer months when it wouldn't be a good time. So I suggest you just plan to wait until fall to do (October/November).

That will give you plenty of time to look into some choices. If you want some with fall color, I'd suggest Sourwood. Another choice might be the 'October Glory' red maple. Scarlet oak is another idea.

There are several advantages in waiting until fall to replant. The soil will settle and level, making it posible to predict the planting depth of the new tree. Also, you can see the fall color of the tree that you choose. Cooler temperatures and the impending dormant season eliminates stress of the tree.

Think of all the research you can do between now and fall to ensure a great choice!
