A few questions: Is the black and white diagonal tile on the backsplash or the floor? What color and material are the counters? What kind and color backsplash (if the B&W tile is on the floor)? Are there other rooms visible from the kitchen, and what color are they painted?

Feeny raises some good questions. I think with black and white -a fairly bold yellow should work very well particularly with white cabinets. Print out a picture of your kitchen and put the paint sample on it and see what it looks like then or change the color of the wall in photo shop. Doing a mock up might help you visualize it better in your space.

B/W tiles are on floor, no back splash (may install later neutral glass tile backsplash), counter top basically black granite. Living room is visible and furniture is basicaly earth tones; black and browns, leather and wood with green walls (SW Ryegrass - light green).

You are lucky in that you can pick just about any color and it will look good. A deep yellow is classic with black and white: Benjamin Moore Mellow Yellow/2020-50 or Yellow Highlighter 2021-40.

See thta's part of my problem; to many choices. I was going with the yellow (Highlighter yellow) in the picture you posted. BUT it is very bright (tested it) and brought in a interior designer for 2-hr session who convinced me I'd hate it (to bold and distracting - retina burns) and suggested a paler color. Not sure now....

Do like the orange/red in your post.

What about a retro look with pink? Try blush if you don't want it too bright.

I like the orange and the featured tile, too. I have an orange den, that I love and have never regretted the choice. Which way does the room face? North and east facing rooms can use warm colors, where as west and south do better in cooler colors.

I vote for the bright yellow. My mother-in-law always had her kitchen a bright yellow, and it was very cheerful. Love the black/white, great kitchen!

I found a Benjamin Moore yellow that my whole family loves. And trust me we tried many.
Its Cheerful yet classically subtle. Any color /shade you choose will depend on your rooms natural light. We have lots of windows in our house but live in a beach area that can get very fogged in so a cheerful room color was important to us. Not overpowering but one that gave you a warm good feeling that made you want to stay. Check out BM Windham Cream and Philadelphia Cream. Both from the BM traditional group. Love the black and white kitchen. Easy palate, classic and You can change it with different pops of color if you choose. A can of paint here, a chair cover or pillows, a picture.... Color can be intimdating but I'm sure you will make the right choice for YOU. Trust your instincts. Take the plunge. It's scary but it's how we learn

I have seen the comment in other discussions that glass tiles will not be fashionable for very long. You have black-and-white floors, and a black granite countertop. I would put up a nice looking white backsplash.

Yellow: For the paint color, look at the yellow colors krryslogin and houssaon suggested. I prefer a sunnier, "clear" yellow instead of sunflower. (I lived with Harvest Gold for too long! )

Orange: To keep the kitchen from looking too dark, consider a bright tangerine rather than a darker pumpkin orange.

Red: In the 1940's, red was the accent color of choice for a black-and-white kitchen. Popular accessories included Redwork embroidery and watermelon knitted or crocheted pot holders, which can still be found in antique shops. One can buy small kitchen appliances and cooking utensils in red these days.

Pink: I like Lanie's idea of using pink. I would not use Barbie doll pink or cotton candy/candy floss pink, but would choose a pink that has some depth to it. Kitchen accessories of all kinds can be found in light pink in the USA.

Let your intuition and your heart guide you to the color that "sings" for you.

I'm an interior designer and I think that bright yellow is absolutely smashing! If your cupboards are white the ceiling's white and your trim is white you can't lose! Vote for the bright yellow first, tangerine second, pink or blush...no! Love it in a bathroom or bedroom but not crazy about it in a \kitchen. My mother had a pink and grey kitchen in the fifties...very au courant at the time but I got tired of it pretty quickly!

I know you are suffering from too many options and are looking for a definitive solution, but I'm afraid I agree with others here who see lots of different colors working in this space. I still think that a strong yellow is perhaps the most classic combo with the black and white, but you could also go with soft gray walls and put the color pops (red maybe?) in kitchen accessories. But rest assured, black and white is such a great combination, you aren't going to go too wrong whatever you pick!

I think everyone has had some great input and ideas for you. Some I will certainly share with others. Again - what kind of lighting does the room hold? Follow your natural instincts and go with what feels good to you - keep us posted.
