Help with radican gardenias

I have a group of 5 radican gardenias on the corner of my house. They get morning sun and afternoon shade. They have some kind of mold or mildew on them and I'm not quite sure how to treat it. It looks like a black tint on the leaves and they had white fly's on them in the summer time. I'm sure it is a result of not treating them in time. Any suggestions on what it is and how to get rid of it?

probably black sooty mold resulting from the honeydew secreted by the whiteflies or other sucking insects. i just live with as it does not seem to adversely affect the gardenia plant that it is on but you could treat with insecticidal soap or hort. oil.
