Harbinger of Spring!

The native Trout Lilies are up, some with spikes already!

The annual show for these small spring ephemerals is only days away. They will join the flowering Crocus, Daffodils, Cyclamen, Daphne, Quince, Helleborus, Camellias and a Rhododendron mucronulatum to brighten a long dreary landscape. Iris retics and danfordiaes are up, but no spikes yet. All of the Arum species are in full foliage and one of the Japanese Arisaema species has been in bloom for a week. It doesn't develop foliage until after the spathes are fully developed. Fingers are crossed!
