I have had similar responses when veturing to other forums here also over the years Kathy. Don't take it too personally.
The accusation that you were spamming was due to the link and recommendations that you posted using product names and sources.
The poster that asked you to read the FAQS first was just letting you know that all the info you asked was already there. Too few folks begin new threads rather than searching for previous threads about the same subject or checking the FAQS. I figure this is simply because we are all inherantly lazy. We would rather have instant answers from someone rather than a paragraph out of some book without the ability to question further. And then there are always going to be a few folks that think they're private little forums are being invaded. Must have something to do with the current political climate.
After all, I believe we have had threads about TY-TY Nurseries at least five times in as many years and yet there is always someone else that wants to ask about it again and begins another thread. Amazing how much info on a subject comes up when one does a search of the forum on the subject in question.

kathy, one of those posters can come across as grumpy sometimes, but is actually very helpful. I'd give him a second chance, if I were you....or at least don't give up on the forum! Sometimes it takes awhile to figure everyone out.

Did you check out the FAQs in the Organic Forum to see if some of your questions were answered? The O. Lawn forum is still a bit new.

I think it's patently ridiculous that you were accused of spam for that post. You actually said that the company was too expensive for you--not exactly the most ringing endorsement ever. Besides, is every link to a website or mention of a brand name to be considered spam? I hope not, because I've gotten a lot of useful information from such links and mentions on these forums! At any rate, as vroomp suggested, there are always going to be a few disagreeable folks on the forums, as in life. Don't let it get you down on such a beautiful day!

It was very rude. If they thought you hadn't done your research it could of been posted a bit better.
Some people have no class and never will. I have seen this kind of action in other forums too.

I know some people do post the same question over and over but personally if I do a search and look up to at least five pages and still don't see any answer for what I'm looking for I will post it. I don't have all day to look through 20 or more pages in hopes that one of those will answer my question.

The hall monitors of adult society are unfortunately quick to say "spam"

I did suspect that there is a post down the index in this forum for an organic lawn care service that was spam but decided to first grill them before shouting spam at them. My question is unanswered to this day.

RE bermudagrass, I haven't found organics to be that effective with it. The FAQ that people always say to read on the lawn care forum is for Cool Season grasses and the care for bermuda is in many cases the opposite. I hate to say this but you'll be doing better by the environment to not drive all over town and haul pallets of grains and meals back home when you can just use a bag of turfbuilder and the crabgrass pre-emergent (which you should go ahead and apply now). You need absurd amounts of the "organic" material to provide enough nitrogen to bring out the potential in hybrid bermuda. The most important things to remember with bermuda in my opinion is mow frequently, as in 3 times a week during peak season with a reel type mower and fertilize with high nitrogen e.g. 46-0-0 every month during the growing season. Water once a week to an inch.
I know that doesn't sound like something that's environmentally friendly but there isn't anything environmentally friendly about having a noxious weed that you can never get rid of.... any way you slice it. Big smiles. Try to have a better day and remember, the hall monitors of adult society are longing for control and they don't really treat people with respect.

Well, it seems to me that terryb was the only jerk on that forum, but terryb was a big enough jerk to make the others look bad. The others helpful - and it was good to come across rhizo's friendly voice.

Please keep track of what you're learning and how its working out. I really want to try an organic lawn if I can ever get a lawn established. I thought I'd try it on the back yard this year because the front lawn is so far gone my only option there is to kill it all and start again in the fall. And I've got to tell you that I'm having trouble piecing it all together and figuring it out. You're way ahead of me. And you're more courageous than I am. After following the Organic posts for a while, I've been afraid to ask them questions. A lot of them seem really nice and helpful, but some of them are strident.

You should read some of the stuff that goes on in the rose forum, especially the Antique Rose forum. I keep getting yelled at. I did get into a tiff with someone about spraying for blackspot. The person lived in Arizona and I live in Georgia - big difference in humidity. It's like this on any forum. My husband was just on some IT forum and was ridiculed - and he is an IT expert. Some people just take out all their aggression on the internet.

You haven't seen nasty until you've stopped into the real estate forum here at gweb/ivillage. Oh boy. Emotions running loose in that place!

I don't think there's ever been a "hobby" type forum that I've joined that hasn't had, at one time or another, heated arguments over minor (and typically pointless) details. That includes forums on square foot gardening, growing roses, fish ponds, finches (birds! for heavens sake!), greenhouses, fence building, etc. etc. etc..

I guess hobbies mean a whole lot more to lots of folks than what they do for a daily living?

Sometimes I go over to the "lawn mover" and "tractor" forums here and read all the "macho" comments on how "real men" only purchase certain green mowers and those who choose other brands are just wimpy little critters.

Glad you're feeling better about the whole thing, Kathy. By the way, I bought a weed hound this morning on your recommendation. It's great. I thought it would take me most of the day to weed and clean up the daylily bed. It took about an hour. You're right. It rocks.
