Randy's is the only place I know with cold-hardy agaves. Most places sell z9 stock and have no idea what they have.

I have had good luck with A.scabra.

I just purchased some plants (including an agave) online at plantdelights.com. They have lots of unusual plants, a bit pricey. I was pleased with how healthy the plants were when I received them, wrapped up really well for shipping. It's my first agave but seems to doing ok.

Ditto the comments about plantdelights.com. Without exception, all the agaves I ordered from them arrived well packaged and in very good condition. Now, I only hope that I have luck keeping them alive.

Regarding cost, they are a bit pricey-especially for S & H. However, given how well the plants were packaged it's arguably worth the cost.

I was at Pike's (on Roswell Rd in Atlanta) this weekend getting a brown turkey fig, and I noticed that they had some variange of Agave for sell, several of them. I didn't get the scientific name, it was simply labelled "Century Plant".
