Looking for ground cover recommendations - Pictures inside

I'm looking for recommendations on ground cover. All 3 locations are on slopes. I'm tired of having to spread 100 bales of pine straw at a time. In the back yard and side yard, there are a few varieties of azaleas. In the front, there are knockout roses and Crape Myrtles. I was thinking Phlox. I'm in Cumming - about 50 miles north of Atlanta. We just moved in July 2008 so really don't know how everything looks in bloom. Here are a couple pictures.

some last year on a slope and it cover in one season. Fast grower, occasional yellow flowers. Drought resistant after establishment.

Phlox is a nice evergreen ground cover and it does spread quickly, however you have a huge amount of space to cover and one plant type might get boring.
I'd go with a simple mix of sturdy perennials (daylilies, sedums, carpet roses and St. Johns wort too)planted in large drifts.
In any case you are still going to need to mulch these beds.
