stubby carrot variety?

I would love to plant carrots this year but my soil is only loose and worked for 4 to 6 inches down. ( I made insta-beds this spring by piling compost on top of newspaper and cardboard- it's all I have time for right now). Anybody have any luck with any shorter carrot varieties? Which ones?
