I think a squirrel has been eating my potted geranium flowers. I've seen him skulking about and when I come home from work flowers that were there in the morning are gone, petals are strewn on the ground. I've sprinkled cayenne pepper on the soil and dusted the flowers with it. Does this harm the plant in any way? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Try putting out a pan of water. Sometimes critters eat our gardens just to quench thirst. I don't know if you are as dry in Ohio this summer as we are here in Wisconsin, but the animals have been really drinking from the water pan I put out for them. I read this tip In Organic Gardening magazine a few years ago, during an especially dry summer. I was amazed at the results. Now I always keep a pan of water out in the summer. In a dry year, I don't even have to change the water, they drink it all up. Hopefully your squirrel will become reformed. ;-)
