I have chickweed EVERYWHERE. Especially around my thorniest roses.When I weed,my DH says I'm going outside to "give blood" in the garden.
I have the other weed (can't remember its name) which, when you touch it to pull it out sprays its seeds over a large area.
I have too much trouble remembering I am no longer 35, and at 65 cannot DO some of the tasks I so took for granted then!!
A horsefly bit me on the left cheek on Friday,so I really looked LOVELY for Easter Sunday! And the suit I wore was bright pink, which sort of echoed the color of my swollen cheek.And it itches!!

Yes the Chickweed is horrible this year, never seen it so bad.. It is EVERYWHERE and the lack of rain has made it a royal pain to pull out.

I think I may have lost a good bit of lilies, only half are peaking through.

The wild violets are popping up EVERYWHERE too..

I can't get anything to grow except english ivy in my shady backyard..

The neighbors wisteria is now in the top of my trees and popping up all over my woodland border.. I hate wisteria!!!

lindabeth, that awful weed that sprays it's seeds is called Bittercress. The dang plant sets seeds even when it is only a half inch tall. True perhaps only 1 or 2 seeds at that height, but they'll make more! And of course my neighbor could care less so despite my efforts at weed control, I'll have it again next year.

Not much else to complain about here except the lack of rain and the occasional hungry DEER. It's one thing to munch the leaves, but do you have to eat the flowers on the shrub too?

oh yeah?:) well MY neighbor will not pull (or round-up) his POISON IVY. he just whacks it. the neighbor on the other side has left an "access space" on the back side of his privacy fence, adn doesn't maintain it, and that's where HIS poison ivy grows. So it doesn't matter how many times i yank it, it keeps crawling under the fence. and my shade natives are not fond of round-up so i can't spray it either. the poison ivy seems to pick those areas on purpose.

then today a stray beagle decided to take a nap in my Pretoria canna bed.

You know, if you want to laugh, look on the old whiners thread and read yomamanem's post (about the 4th one). It cracked me up.

Of course I've still got the little curly "groundcover" that's taken over my "lawn" which somebody suggested might be wild carrot, which it might be but it doesn't much of a root. I have a new clue, though - it's what makes those little burrs that make it impossible to walk barefoot on the lawn. Any ideas?

Other than that, well, the hellstrip on the other side of the cars, between my house and my neighbors, is a mess of violets and messiness, privet that won't die and long wooden beams that are supposed to direct the water into the street but are rotted and horrible looking.

Sigh, I need professional help (of the sodlaying landscaping type) since DH isn't doing it. aargh.

But aside from that I just can't complain so much when my yard is like paradise right now.

My whine has nothing to do with my garden, but with this horrible pollen. I lost my voice for two days last week, missed 1.5 days of work...I'm taking allergy pills, snorting Flonase and using an inhaler.

Saturday, the pollen wasn't about to keep me out of the garden, so I donned a carpenter's dust mask and had a great time!

Ah...spring....I love it!

My yard is a mess of "that weed", too. It did go to seed before I could buy a decently priced extra long extension chord for the weed wacker. So next weekend we need a quick trip to the feed store to buy some of the corn gluten pellets before laying down the pinestraw. I want to irradicate that re-seeding mess.
My neighbour is once again refusing to do anything with her yard. She has had an extension put on her home, very close to mine with HUGE windows looking into my back yard. The job is not done. I think they've run out of money and are trying to finish it themselves. It's a mess. The "lawn" is 3' tall weeds, junk everywhere. Now she's saying she is refusing a "privacy fence". Clearly the windows were built to "steal views" if you will. She saw 4 leylands I've planted along the fenceline and has said "oh no. No trees, they are NOT staying". And who owns my yard???? I'd like to say the debris, the shed which is falling into my yard (and constantly bangs in the wind), and useless grandson with Boom-car friends are going to go. :0

I am not going to whine about my garden. It's the thing that is keeping me sane. The roses are spectacular. The iris have been out of this world. My soil is plenty moist and I'm glad it's not been pouring rain. The extension on the house next door is close to my foundation and without gutters.
I am putting up some sort of 'visual barrier' between our houses no matter what is said. I don't think I should have to look at a big fat mess, and hear a big fat lot of noise.

Did I say how happy I am with the garden? Even the stinkin' weedy annoying mess of a sinking yard we bought next door makes me happy! I planted three raised beds full of veggies, am re-doing the foundation beds, have started on the "hell strip", and am planning other gardens to hide the chain link fence (which is keeping a local individual from stealing my horse poop. I kid you not!!).

I don't have too much to whine about with the exception that I was so worried about the deer devouring my veggies last year. We live in a wooded area with lots of deer scampering around and to my surprise they left my veggies alone. I was worried about my growing hosta and daylily collection getting munched and once again....they passed them right over. Instead what do they feast on? Only the most expensive part of the landscape! Something which I was told they aren't supposed to bother when there are other things readily available. A large hedge row of nearly 30 Encore Azaleas which I have been drooling to see in full spring bloom for an entire year! Now less than half of them actually managed to have a few buds open thanks to those buggers. I'm no hunter but I'm thinking of taking it up lol!

And as usual, the wild blackberry bushes are stalking me. Every time I turn around they've crept two feet closer. I'm afraid one day they may overtake me. If for some reason you don't see me at the swap, please let my family know what happened lol.

Japanese Honeysuckle and privet! that is all I have to say.

(*^*%$%* Mow n' Go idiots! My yardmen have been mowing without a bag and have spread grass seed into every bed I have. I now have grass growing everywhere and with our Softball schedule for my daughter I have no time to pull all the grass and weeds they have helped to spread. On top of that they thought the Mazus needed trimming and sheard it right down to the patio surface where it grows between the stones. ARGHHHH!

Ok, I guess I'll whine a little, even though I haven't posted here in probably over a year! The sun is so hot beating into the windows on the back of the house, which face west. I am not "allowed" to plant any trees there to help filter the sun some because I live in a condo and the homeowner's association has made our neighborhood something reminiscent of Nazi Germany. They won't let us do ANYTHING without permission!

Because of the homeowner's association, there is a section of our neighborhood in the back which is full of overgrown weeds and vines. I've begged them to allot money to rehabbing that area. We could do it very inexpensively. But it has been years. I see no hope in creating a nice landscaped space back there. I'm pretty sure it will take kudzu to make them change their minds.

One more thing...one of my irises, a real beauty, is dead. It's my fault. I didn't plant it last year. The pot must have gotten too dry. :(

Oh, and the landscaping company the condo people hired have butchered some of my shrubs. They stomped on one of my finicky perennials and broke some branches on my weeping holly. Jerks!

My only garden whine is that I can't purple waves in little containers. I do not want the 18 pack from HomeDepot or the 1 gallon size from Lowes. The nurserys charge 3.50 for a 4" pot.

Weeds, weeds and more weeds. The chickweed, nutsedge and violets are all vying for dominance everywhere except under the massive oak tree right next to my house. There, I fight an army of little oak trees. My azaleas keep mysteriously dying (I suspect that the neighbor whose tiny deck overlooks that bed is unintentionally killing them). My five-year-old dogwood trees grows but refuses to bloom. The cannas that my husband found on the side of the road and never even planted escaped from their pots and refuse to be eradicated. The stupid squirrels have dug so many holes that my little yard looks like the surface of a golf ball. There are enough acorns and pecans on top of the ground to feed them for years. And the pollen.

Hmmm...well, I'm still glowing from my dahlia purchases last night at the auction. My only big whine is rain, which we should be getting in the next couple of days. Oh and the horrible sunburn I got from planting 80 annual vincas as a border in my front beds...

4. SNAKES - I have left them all alone because I'm pretty sure none have been the poinsonous-type, but I've been keeping track and have seen at least one in my yard every day for the last 12 days. I'm getting tired of running into them constantly!

Scotland, interesting that you mentioned dying azaleas....I have one that's about 15 years old and I've been watching it slowly die on me for the last couple of weeks. Wonder what's happening?

WEEDS...especially this new kind that is all over the very thick wood chip layer that is over a layer of plastic (it is sooooo hard sometimes being organic).......my new raised bed that I filled with soil and manure and got back a few days later to find it covered in wild violets.......this was suppose to be my year not to purchase any new plants and I've already spent a fortune.......my neighbor who complains about my "WILD" garden (she is the type who picks up every single pinecone and prunes her azaleas into balls)...of course I do secretly enjoy doing things in my yard to shake things up in this boring Dunwoody area :) ........and lastly the roaming neighbors cat who loves my feasting on all my birds (and I do love cats..the indoor types)

OH! THE WEEDS! WEEDS! Weeds weeds! weeds! I have them all in abundance this year for some reason (no preen last year maybe, too thin a mulch, not cold enough over the winter, I don't know) but I have lots. The worst of the lot is the wild violets - everywhere - crowding other things out. Then there is the wild blackberry that sprung up in one of the shade beds over the winter, and of course every sweet gum seed that fell out of those @%$* little balls that kill my feet sprouted and a little patch of nutsedge that won't go away and I'm about to resort to roundup on it once the rain ends!

I'm going outside to sit on the ground for a couple hours and pull weed - I won't even have to move much in that time.

On a positive note - my iris have never looked better! They are huge and blooming vigorously!

My baby red maple died! Why? It's the wonderful red concrete that lurks under the grass my husband likes. The original landscapers took the topsoil, leaving giant green bushes that were probably the only things that could survive the clay. After last summer's drought, the maple lost a losing battle.

Oh well. It was planted in a weird place anyway.

I'm so happy about my irises, though! The neighbors got jealous and planted petunias.

Snoogie, don't forget that the best product for nutsedge is Image (which you can now buy at Home Depot). This is a product that is designed for bulb producing plants (so keep it away from daffodils). This is a little more expensive than Round up, but it is worth it.

re Image, so that would be why the sneaky lil *&%@#$%^ have moved in next to my daffs.

my cure for wild violets is to put edging around them and call them a flowerbed:) surefire cure for lawn grass, which I consider a weed:) of course, we have bermuda, which has never met an edging it couldn't ignore.

my husband, the mad scientist/basement inventor, is working on a blueprint for a self-propelled yard vac with a tennis ball shooter in the other end, just to give the neighbors back their sweetgum balls. you could also use it to discourage bird-eating cats.

I want your husband's yard vac when he perfects it - oh, he doesn't even have to perfect it. I'll take it as a prototype! Although I don't know where I'm going to shoot the gumballs - they are coming from my own trees. I just want to see gumballs fly.

Whining cuz I can't get the herbs in the ground fast enough! I bought a couple herb plants the other day, set them on the stoop and by the time I came back from my other errands the marjoram had fried (the chives were unharmed)! Well I now have a pot of dried marjoram, I guess I should just crumble it up and stick it in a jar.
