Crabgrass is an annual weed so if it has already germinated then you are too late to use any other pre-emergent and using weed killer product now would potentially damage your real grass.

If it is really crabgrass, it should not be setting seed for several months now so you have plenty of time to pull it, a section at a time (or use a hoe). Great way to put those kids to work, especially after a rain when it is super easy to pull out.

If you see it setting seed now, I don't think it is crabgrass. In that case it could be annual bluegrass or Poa annua. If that is what you have then you needed to have applied the pre-emergent in FALL and that is why doing it in spring didn't help.

Hey Esh -- I'm pretty sure it is crabgrass -- long stems and leaves, spreads out as big as a large dinner plate... I've got other sneaky weeds in there, too, but the crabgrass (or what I assume is crabgrass) is the main culprit.

I thought I did see one of the plants sending up a stem with seeds, but I mowed over it (bagging the debris).

This spring has been crazy - you certainly might have it already.

Well, I do have some poa annua.... and I think every other weed known to man. I looked up images and p.a. is definitely in there.

But crabgrass is the big bad guy. I guess I'll go out and pull as much as I can, then get a little bottle of spray that I can specifically target the grab grass with. I don't need a pristine, chemically-created perfect yard, but what I have now is looking pretty bad!!!!

The good news is that the front half of the yard is either bermuda or zoysia or something. It is thick and lovely and darned near invasive. I'm hoping it will take over the rest of the yard and choke out the bad guys!
