Oh this desk is so fun! - we actually just installed another like this. The wood is a thick LVL beam that was cut at a radius with a 3/8" piece of glass on top. You can get these beams at most lumber yards- make sure it is a pretty one- just tell them it will be exposed. You would just need adequate support in the walls with steel depending on if you had side walls like in this photo. See the other desk like this below-
