I have had a similar experience in reverse, my dog trying to get inside. He has destroyed a door and several windows.

Poor dog. I had one that climbed a six foot fence and ran and ran and ran to get away from the thunder. It took me a month to find him. He didn't get over his fear until he got old and went deaf. I feel for both of you.

You might want to check with you vet about this. We give one of our dogs Xanax (per vet's prescription) right before a storm. A dog can have seizures if he gets really upset during storms

Yikes! I hope he didn't hurt his paws. Our dog would shake so hard it looked like the meat on her body was going to fall right off her bones. She's getting better, we just act like nothing is happening when thunderstorm hits. Last time she just jumped up on our bed with us (she usually sleeps downstairs) and I don't think she shook at all.

A friend of mine came home to their dog splayed out on the floor at the bottom of the stairs. (there was bad thunderstorms while they were at work) He had dislocated his hind legs and had to go in for emergency surgery.

Our friends' dog jumped out of a 2nd story window as she thought that the thunder eminated from inside the house.
She was OK, but we had quite a patch up job to do just to get her to the vets. She'd tried to get out the door and wall before that, so they were torn up and so where her poor feet.

Poor doggie, and poor you for your door. Luckily, you are a very handy guy and can fix it!
