I don't think watering is the cause. Some of my hydrangeas are looking pretty bad this year compared to most. One of my favorites has only one bud on it this year. The only one that is looking good is the oakleaf. I know mine took some hits from warm weather/cold weather, warm weather/cold weather this spring. The one that is most exposed to the weather looks the worst now. A lot of them have slightly stunted leaves this year. I think this wasn't a very good winter and spring for hydrangeas. That could be the problem with yours.

I have two ES and two oakleaf and not having any problems. One of the ES looked a little droopy the other day but it seemed to perk up. I planted them all in the fall. I don't typically water them or give them any special attention.

My hydrangeas look very leafy but the flowerheads are much smaller than normal.

Uh oh- now I'm worried that I may have brought some kind of virus into my yard. I have beautiful healthy hydrangeas here that are blooming like crazy. But last weekend my mom brought me four from her yard in Louisiana. None of hers are blooming this year. We thought a little tlc, fertilizer, and moist shade in my yard might do the trick. But now I'm thinking maybe there's some kind of hydrangea epidemic and I've imported it to my babies. Alas! Do you guys think this is possible?
