How do Snapdragons grow in Georgia? When should they be planted and when do they bloom? I read that they sometimes perform as perennials. I'm looking for some to use as cut flowers and have seen some photos of some beautiful doubles. See the link to one photo.
I planted snap draggons a few years ago (after we moved in) and they have come back every year. I originally would pull up the dead looking plant, but since have learned that they will come back (at least for me) from not only the original "dead looking" plant, but they reseed. I will either cut off or break off the dead plant branches, leaving the roots in the ground.
I do have a mild winter, but have lost many things to frost here...but this plant survived the winter and has been a constant show of flowers. Others in neighboring beds, have also come back and are just as pretty as before. I even have some growing in the cracks in my brick patio UNDERNEATH a bench...they are obviously the one's that seeded from the main plants.
I have had mine for about five years now. Just a small cluster - in full sun!? I just leave them when they die off and they come back the next year. I would love to move them but think that if i did that would be the end of them, so i'll just leave them be at the moment.
