Ginger and my wife

My wife asked me how to grow ginger tonight. Since I had no clue I jumped on the forum.....I had no idea there were so many gingers. Can somebody give me the basics..I live in zone 5, my wife usaully uses ginger when she cooks. When do you plant it? How or where do you plant it? Soil prefence. Full Sun? Thanks for any help.
