Pruning off pods before planting (okra)

I started a gazillion okra from seed, and they all grew ALL of them.

I'm selling some and then planting as many as I have room for. They are still in their transplanted pots (first move from the seed tray) and are probably 7-10 inches tall, with a few leaves and all of them have one pod on top. Is this normal? I cut them off, thinking that the roots would be more focused on establishing, as well as the leaves.

Hope this was not a mistake.
