Re: Cedar wood chips

Hi fellow gardeners,

In desperation of trying to rid my vegetable garden of weeds, I put newspaper down between the raised beds and covered it with cedar mulch. I then noticed that the cedar chips were less expensive and purchased those instead. Have I made a mistake by covering it with the wood chips instead of mulch? Is it more toxic and will it effect my vegetables? I can't seem to get a consensus on this. Help!

no biggie deal:

It's like the difference between French fries & hash browns;
they're both just potato!

I've heard rumors or stories about the toxicity of cedar oils, but I've had excellent experience with cedar mulch (shredded/chipped/sliced/diced/any way I can get it!)

You can even hang cedar in your closet to repel moths & such.

(but if you're still concerned, you could post on the garden forums, on Soil Compost & Mulch.)
