Can I do this?

This is probably a dumb question, but...I have a creek that runs through the middle of my back yard. It's probably about five feet deep. During heavy rains it sometimes spills over into the back half of the yard (a couple times a year.) On one section there are common daylilies. They've been there since we moved in 4+ years ago. I'd like to divide some of them, and spread them along more of the creek. However, I'm afraid of screwing up the bank and having an erosion issue. Can I dig up some of the daylilies, and leave some to protect the bank?

Thanks,

Pam
