I do that with my gourd vines. It can be done, but say laying out pieces of cardboard as the vines grow does make life a lot easier. (although you may lose the grass underneath)

But yeah you can just plant the pumpkins and mow around the vines. As to planting 4 in a single monster mound. It "can" be done but pumpkins especially the big ones like yours are SUPER HEAVY feeders. So your gonna need a pretty serious pile.. But yeah you could do that. You might just have smaller pumpkins. You can also cut the main vine at about 10-12ft (3-4 fruits) and that will help focus the plants energy into your pumpkins.

(Gourds and Pumpkins are very similar in their growing habits so if you need more info just ask)

Thanks. Everything I do is basically an experiment, I'm going to give it a try. I've also planted a mound of birdhouse gourds on a trellised fence.
I'm looking for some 'snake gourd' seeds. I need the gourd variety, not the edible ones. Any suggestions?

I got mine at the local Ace Hardware. Ferry Morse is the company.. I'd send you some but I've planted all of mine. (sorry) I think I paid less than 2 dollars for a packet.

I'm just waiting for all my gourds to start sprouting.
The packet says their edible when little and if you let the season out they'll dry into the hard shelled type.. I dunno I planted them as a trial. New gourds, pumpkins, and yardlong beans are this years scientific endevour.
