I have a varigated form of this that I've been growing since last fall. It's planted right up next to this fence, so is getting quite a bit of shade. It's almost like a very low-growing, spreading groundcover, but the bloom stalks are over a couple of feet tall right now.

My mother loves cut flowers also so I potted her up a couple of pieces of this several months ago. Doesn't seem to have much in the way of a root system at all! Basically, just one long root off of each plant. I won't try potting up anymore for her until fall....

Oh, this was also an evergreen for me last year. I really like it!

I have three varieties; Freedom, Patricia Lynn and Sweet Laura. The sweet laura had done the best and then Freedom.
They are all in full sun.

I recently bought a variegated one that seems to be struggling. But now that I searched it some more I know I need to move it so that variety gets more shade.

I have Sweet Laura in full-sun, and am going to have a pink oe soon (no idea of the name). My Sweet Laura has taken 3 years to really get going, and even now struggles a bit. I'm thinking maybe some PM shade is the best for her.... I also have the red pittsocatta (not variegated) above, often called "Parrot Flower". It is perfectly hardy here and grows about anywhere!

I have Sweet Laura in a semi-shade spot and she is rampant. Four feet tall and spreading every year, from a four inch pot to two and a half feet in three years. She is blooming now with my Asian Creamsicle Lilies and they look wonderful together. I haven't tried to divide the plant, but I think after this year I will. I'm going to plant some of it behind a row of hostas under the dogwood and see how it does there.

The red and pink forms are beautiful. I like the airy look of the alstromerias.
