If there is a trick to keeping them strong & upright I'd love to hear it. Obviously if you're in a windy area staking is probably a must but we haven't had much wind this year. Most of mine remained fairly upright except for one particular variety. It's a pink called "My Love" (I think) and every one of those collapsed. It wasn't even an exceptionally heavy flower top, just a really skinny stalk. Those will definitely have to be staked next year. I think planting them a little deeper than recommended also helped my other glads but others may disagree.

Perhaps beating them with a stick as they grow may strengthen them up a bit.

Love your advice vroomp! I think I will keep mine. They do need to be moved so I will do so and maybe put stakes in as I replant.

I keep them upright by making them grow through chicken wire suspended about six inches from the ground. The chicken wire has be in place before they start to grow.

I wonder if planting them deeper makes a difference? I've used the round rings (used to hold peonies). They work ok... not all that great. But chicken wire wrapping the ring might work good... I need to try that next year...
