I have a few species of the fall-flowering one's, shared by a good friend. I am not very excited with them, as they seldom bloom for me, too much shade, I fear, When they bloom, the peduncle is enlongated and the flower winds up on the ground, again, a symptom of too much shade, although some sources state they are suitable for sun or shade. The winter/spring blooming ones's adjacent to them, do well. I will probably move them to a sunnier location,when I get around to making some new beds.Many of the available one's are hardy, probably to Zone 5(or colder, with protection) and mine stay in the ground, year around.

Thanks for the info. I read the description in a catalog and said they do best in planted in ground cover....to keep the blooms/stem from falling over. So, I'm going to pass and opt for the spring crocus.
