Spanish Lavender Seed?

Do any of you know if spanish lavender will grow from seed it produces after blooming? Does it have to go though a cold period. My daughter just moved into a rental house with what looks to me to be a spanish lavender hedge across the front lawn. It is covered with seed heads and I picked some of them off to see if I could get new plants from them but I want to treat them right for germination and would appreciate advice. Thanks

I had very good luck with cuttings of spanish lavendar. I have heard that it is hard to get to germinate.

I have had good luck from cuttings also. The first time I did by accident! Just take cuttings in the spring and stick them in the ground. Even with the lack of rain (and with no watering) I have two new plants. Each year I'll "plant" six or seven cuttings in the ground and walk away, I always end up with a couple of new plants -- It's foolproof!

That sounds like an easy method to rooting lavender. How log of a cutting do you stick in the ground? I want to try it.
