Jill, I noticed the same thing - never saw even ONE!!!

Rick, that was wonderful! Thank you. If the owners of this garden have internet access, I hope you tell them about your tour. I'm sure they'd like to see this. Sometimes it's hard to appreciate your own hard work because you're always planning ahead and thinking of everything that needs to be done. Please give them my compliments.

Jan, sorry to hear about the loss of your brother-in-law. Take care of yourself and your family.

THANK YOU Rick for the wonderful garden tour. What is the size of this lovely garden/lot in feet? Now I know a large bed of DLs can look lovely. I see some planning coming up this winter to decide which decorative items to add to my new bed. But first there is weeding, weeding and more weeding.
Thanks again for taking the time to get this lovely tour together. We all know how long it takes to get the photos ready, and to upload, and then paste to the DL Forum.

Anxious to join the next tour. Jane

Did anyone think about how long it took to deadhead all those daylilies? I was impressed that there were no weeds as many of you were. But, I was most impressed that I didn't see day-old blossoms! Wow, what a job to clean all those plants.

    Rick, loved it!! Thanks

My very favorite thing--a garden tour and this one was so nice cool and relaxing with you doing all the work!! I loved all the little touches of "whimsy" and some pretty neat birdhouses. I am always looking for new ideas for garden art and companion plants for my daylilies. Thanks so much for inviting us to go along!

Will look forward to more in the future.

    Jan-so sorry for your loss.

Cathy....#8 in the first group is Bela Lugosi...I'm not Sure about the other you asked about. I will see if I can find out .

Jan...I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad though that these pic's brought you a touch of happiness! Nothing is better the a smile....

Thank you all for your kind comments. I know they don't have a web site and I will pass along all of your wonderful comments to these FANtastic Daylily Folk's. I would list their names....but I don't think that is best, without asking them first. They have worked so hard to keep their gardens like this, as you see them..ALL the time. These are True to the bone Plant People..:)
The place is just a nice "Normal sized yard" for this area..Only a guess here.... never measured it....about 3/4 of an acre I would think...maybe a little less. They normally "Live Head" the gardens the evening before they have folks over to visit...otherwise it is deadheaded in the AM. With the Mulch that is used, very little weeding is needed. Thus, no weeds and no old blooms on the Daylilies. The gardens are real nature draws too. There are birdnests, everywhere. Butterlies and Hummer's all over the place...and Yes...LOL as seen, even a few Bunnies running around.
I am Glad that those of you that took the ride, ENJOYED it...I will post more in the future...:)

Rick you have a great eye for taking pictures I enjoyed each and every one of them. That is a garden that we all wish was ours it's so beautiful. Looking forward to the next garden tour. Thanks for sharing it is also very hot here in Minnesota and this is the perfect way to tour a dream garden.

Jan my heart goes out to your sister and yourself on your loss.

Thanks for sharing the photos. That is an AMAZING garden! I was also wondering where the weeds were??? I'm looking forward to the next tour also.

Rick, do you know the name of the shrub or large bushy plant on the third and fourth photos? It has deep fuschia/lavender spike type blooms at the end of the stems and looks at least 7'-8' tall. I believe someone showed one of your photos on the Daylily Gallery and asked the name of this plant. I read through all the posts on this thread, but could not find where it was mentioned although I recognized the photo and thought someone else had asked about it.
    Thanks. Jane
PS: Enjoyed the tour the second time around as much as the first. My aim is to have my much smaller garden that well tended and beautiful.

    Hi again Jane,
Glad you enjoyed taking the tour again. The plant you are asking about is called "Loosestrife" (Lysimachia). It can be very invasive in certain areas in certain conditions. Meaning it can spread seed and pop up all over, especially in wet condtions. This being true, depending on the variety. Many varieties have been banned from sale. BUT, there are also cultivars that are very nice and stay in a shrub/clump form and don't go crazy. Many states have stopped it's sale in Garden Center's/Nurseries, trying to insure the invasive types don't take over certain areas. If you have driven up along 95 in areas of Maine you will see ditches along the highway and drainage areas that are filled with it. There it has taken over the native species and disrupted the ECO systems in those areas. Again, there are many good ones available, that stay on a nice form. Just check around at your local Nurseries/Garden Center's. It does set of the garden with many weeks of bloom and a gorgeous colour too.
    Hope that helped....with out getting technical...LOL :)

That yellow daylily with the grassy leaves in the 3rd photo had me fooled until I noticed that part of it was planted up high in a bucket or something. Interesting effect!

Thanks so much for moving this up. I missed the train the first time around. Think I can appreciate it even more when it's so cold out and there are no daylilies to look at outside. It's beautiful.

    2 questions.....

Can I have permission to paint from your garden photos?

Also, just curious as to how many garden tours or visitors you have a year? Are you an AHS garden? Thanks.

Rick, I'm jumping on the band wagon or the Choo Choo. I guess I'll be in the caboose!! I have been sitting here looking for garden ( daylily ) pictures. it was a thrill to see all of the beautiful flowers and I really am looking forward to dl season. Hi again.. I noticed the huge spider daylily in 13th picture. Can you tell me what name of it? It is pretty big and nice color too.. Kat

    Kat,
I have a hard time counting passed 10.....but if I did count correctly I believe you are talking about Lake Norman Spider. Carpenter, 1981 28" Tall with a 8" bloom. It's a Dip and Dormant. Hope thats the one you are looking at..:)

    Max (Rick)

Yes Rick.. That is it! Thank you so much! Kat

I don't get here often and am glad this post was bumped up. I loved the tour, this is what I want my place to look like someday. Awesome, thanks Rick.

    Sharon

I so enjoyed this tour, thank you so much. It gave me hope to think about the sunny days and daylilies ahead, I can't wait. I really can't imagine my garden looking remotely like that one though. Do people really get that many blooms at one time on a daylily?!!! I get plenty of scapes and buds, but they all seem to bloom one at a time.
Maybe I need to check out the info on fertilizers.
Anyway, wow! and thanks again. ~~Sharon

Wow, I know this is an old post but being new to the Daylily Forum, I did not see it when it was first around. The pictures and the garden are so striking that it is certainly worth a second look even for those who saw it when it was originally posted. Thank you for taking the time to put up these gorgeous pictures!

I hope you guy's don't mind me bumping this up........I want to re-shot the gardens this year and compare pic's.......Thanks for your understanding...:) Oh , also for any "Newbies" this garden goes to show you...you can have a very nice Daylily Garden.....without the latest greatest daylilies on the market...:)
    Thanks again for your understanding....(ô¿ô)

Is the garden an AHS display garden? Any chance you could provide some info on where it is, and when it's open for visitors? Just in case I happen to be in the area....:)))

    Morning Lynxe,

No, it is not an ahs display garden....though it should be, it's beautiful. It is located just off Interstate 83 from the Strinestown exit. They are only open two dates a year, both are Friday and Saturday dates, each Summer. He will send out a letter soon with the two different dates....they run back to back. I'll post them on here when the info is sent. If you would like exact location of the home I can give you that in a e-mail.....just email me with your address and as soon as I know the exact dates I'll holler. It's worth the visit IMHO....plus you are only about 20-25 minutes from Perfect Perennials (www.hardyhems.com) and a few other places too.

I'm in complete awe! What gorgeous gardens! Fantastic photographs! Thank you so much for the tour! I'm up for more touring if there are any new pictures!

I got a lot of great ideas for my own gardens from some of the pictures! This year, we're adding quite a few new daylilies and iris to the beds and garden areas we already have, and some of the plant and color combinations are very worthy of duplicating! I just happen to have a long expanse of white garage wall to plant in front of, and the photos show exactly that; a white garage or building wall with lovely plants and other garden ideas!

Thanks again for taking the time to photograph and post all these fabulous pictures!

    Happy Gardening!

Wow! I don't know how I missed this thread before. These photos have inspired me to get out there and mulch and weed toay! What a gorgeous garden!

For anyone who might be looking for that tall spiked pinkish plant, I may be wrong, but I actually think it is *Lythrum* as vs. Lysimachia. And Lytrhum salicaria is supposed to be a very invasive plant (I think mostly in wetlands) and listed as a noxious weed in many states. Lythrum salicaria is also referred to as Purple Loostrife.

    i'm_a_ believer,

If you go up to the post dated 8 Aug 06 at 8:29 the Loosestrife is explained. It was planted long before it became illegal to sell in Pa. It does stay in a very nice clump and does not spread like you see near wet soil/areas. There are types out now that is sterile and is fine for most areas. Too bad they didn't stop it long ago, before it took over many water ways in the far Northeast.....

Glad you bumped this back up Rick....makes me long for bloom season to hurry up!! :) That garden is just beautiful, can't wait to see the photos you take of it this year.

New to DL gardening. Thanks for bumping it up. Lovely gardens. Looking foward to being this year's blooms. I have several grown from seed in a holding area that should flower this year. Anxious to see what they look like. The best will be moved to create a DL section in the garden.

I'm not sure on the way I should link this to the thread I started about this garden....I am going to bump it up and hopefully one of the talented computer folks can link it properly...Please.
Thanks.....this is the garden that is open for touring the 4/5th of July and the 11/12th of July. They also added another section to it for this year....Just for your info...:)
