They are interesting... my are shaped like trumpets. The other C. Maxima I have, Cindarella pumpkin, their blossoms open up pretty well, but my Hubbard squash blossoms are more tubular. Is that normal?
But they are awesome for stuffed squash blossoms. I picked about 16 male blossoms today, and we stuffed and fried up some for dinner. Their tubular trumpet shape makes them awesome for this.
