I went out after the rain and really took a look at the vine. It is a Wandering Jew...it so pretty but what I've been reading it can be very invasive like mint. Now I will have to decide to dig it up,plant in pot and save for next year.

Don't worry yourself about the invasiveness of wandering jew in your area. they die with frost. you should take cuttings that root readily in a glass of water to preserve your plant for next year. just grow it as a houseplant through winter.

Sounds more like a Persicaria, aka smartweed or knotweed. Lots of different species and forms, some low and vining or trailing, others more upright and often with distinct markings or chevron patterns on the foliage. Flower color varies from pure white to pinks and red. Invasiveness also varies widely with species - some are extremely aggressive, others quite well-behaved.

The only way to confirm identification of your plant is to post a photo - otherwise it is pretty much guesswork.
