Should I peat pot pumpkins or not?

Hi,

Pumpkin and gardner newbie here. I want to grow some Connecticut Field Pumpkins for the kids this fall. The seed packet says they have a 100 day maturity, so I need to plant them soon.

I germinated some seeds in a baggie, but I'm not sure if I should just put them in the ground or if I should put them in little peat pods and let them grow indoors first.

I'm in Los Angeles and I don't know if the heat will be too much for the seedling if I put them in the ground now.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

George
