COME ONE COME ALL!!

The Georgia Master Gardener Association will be holding itÂs Fall Conference , Awesome Autumn in the Foothills, on September 24, 2005 at the Georgia Mountains Center in the heart of historic downtown Gainesville.

The conference is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, so please brings your friends and plan for a day of exciting speakers, great shopping and good conversation!

The Georgia Mountains Center offers comfortable theatre style seating. Enjoy a delicious lunch buffet served by Turnstile Deli Caterer for the Atlanta Falcons!

FIVE EXCITING SPEAKERS INCLUDE:

Chris Hansen, Director of Marketing, Terra Nova Nurseries, Portland Oregon, formerly Horiculture Director of Wayside Gardens, Greenwood SC.

Scott McMahan, owner of McMahanÂs Nursery in Clermont, GA, formerly with the Atlanta Botanical Garden, has traveled the world extensively in search of new and interesting plants and heÂll have plenty on site for sale!

Linda Chafin, author of ÂThe Field Guide to the Rare Plants of Georgia.Â

Theresa Schrum, President of the Georgia Native Plant Society, writer for Georgia Gardening and assistant to Walter Reeves on WSB RadioÂs ÂLawn and Garden ShowÂ on Saturday mornings from 6-10am.

Billy Skaggs, Hall County Extension Coordinator. Billy has received numerous awards and in addition to his usual duties, hosts ÂHome GrownÂ on Saturday mornings on WDUN 550AM Radio.

SEVEN FANTASTIC PLANT VENDORS will be offering terrific prices on RARE and UNUSUAL plants many that are featured in the speakerÂs presentations, as well as some of the old favorites!

Linda Fraser, artist of botanicals, will be on hand with her beautiful prints and note cards.

Also available will be hypertufa pottery, tools, garden art and music and Chapter 11 book sales.

Tours to the new Smithgall Arboretum can be arranged for Friday and Saturday afternoons!

I think I am going to try to go but I may be too far north for you. Any chance you could get a ride to Cumming or even Alpharetta?

If you do go, look for me: short, big nose, hungover, green shoes. I will be a vendor in the cafeteria selling what remains of my yard art plus selling my new CD which contains the garden tune "Green Man" which has been played on Walter's radio program plus TV23.

Nope, DH is studying again, so I can't get him to tote. But thanks for offering. If I can't go, I can't. I'm used to it by now. I don't know what I'll do when he finishes studying??? ALL THOSE PLACES TO GO!!

Wow, Eddie, thanks for the heads up, this seems like a fabulous event. GGG, I can't promise I'll go because so much depends on football games or other required things involving schools but if I go I'll let you know.

It would be really great to run into you guys at the Conference. If you can make it, while you're here plan on visiting the new Smithgall Arboretum division of the ABG in the afternoon to see it in its early days. If you haven't already, or even if you have. It's going to be very elegant and impressive someday, but today's neonate version will be gone with the wind in the process. McMahon's Nursery would also appeal to a bunch of plant nuts for sure. Scott used to be with the ABG and will be talking and offering some of his treasures at the Fall Conference, but the nursery itself is only about 10 minutes farther north from the Smithgall up 129 on the left after you pass Hwy 52. Keep an eye open for a bank of flowers with a greenhouse behind them and don't be distracted by cows in the pasture on the right.
