Go to Hastings or Pike and TRY ON gloves till you find some that "feel right", Then buy more than one pair if you can, for the day you wear a hole through them like I did, and don't want to stop to take a shower and go to the store!!!

I use disposable gloves, like from a doctors office. They fit snugly, prevent my hands from drying out in the dirt and my finger nails from being permanently encrusted. They are thin enough that I can still feel what I am digging into to tease apart roots when I need to. And when I get a hole I just put on a new one.

They aren't that good when pruning roses. But the roses haven't damaged me much yet.

See if you can find any gloves manufactured by Woman's Work. Bought gloves from them last year, and I LOVE them, although no I do not see a catalog listed when I search. Other companies seem to carry the gloves though.
The gloves are cut narrow with longer fingers. I wear the extra large size as I have incredibly long fingers. I think they are true to size, and scaled well. Mine are the rose pruning gloves with soft leather interiors and fabric like a scooba suit on the back of the hand. I think you will like them.

Our Master Gardener organization always has Atlas gloves available for members. I love them because they are thin but durable. You can see them at this site:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Astro gloves so much. they are the best and my hands are very small. Barb run to your nearest Ace Hardware and pick up a pair or two, you will be hooked I promise. I do however recommend having a thicker pair for anything that might result in callouses since they are so thin and lightweight they do not provide much padding, but they stand up serious playing in GA red clay that is for sure and they are not hot either. I also saw them at Gardenwright nursery, but I got mine at Ace.

If you are frugal, like me, then go to Big Lots. You will find lots of the gloves listed above, labels torn off. I bought two pairs of great leather gloves there last week for $2.95 a pair (yep, that's right, $2.95/pr). Saw the SAME gloves that afternoon at Home Depot for $10.95/pr. I love Big Lots: 90% junk, 10% great finds!

well, tried several that are mentioned and then I bought a pair of Atlas gloves. These are just wonderful. From Ace Hardware at $6.99 and I cannot remember when I have been able to keep a pair of gloves on all day. They really are the best. Thanks all for posting.

Another one here for latex exam gloves. They get dirty, they get tossed. My old neighbors used to make fun of me for wearing them because I look like I'm about to do surgery out there. All you need to complete the look is a face mask , scrubs and a stethoscope. I get cases of them at a time for work and they are comfortable to wear.

duh, sorry Barb, I meant "Atlas" gloves, I just saw that I posted "Astro." Actually, I just bought a second pair a couple of weeks ago. I can never have enough gloves, but these are definitely the best for basic gardening.
