Ohh, how long did it take for yours to bloom? Mine never has. Probably because mine desperately needs to be moved.

I planted this one in late June and it just grew and grew. I finally pulled a leader downward last month and it budded right away. It took about 3 weeks for the flowers to mature and open. I now have about 5 more leaders pulled facing downward to see if it inspires them to bloom also. Mine is getting about five or six hours of full sun.

Mine gets disgusting and diseased looking where it is. Too dry I think. It's going to go on the chain link nextdoor to see if that helps, I'll move it in the fall. I'll try anything!
I do have a baby groundcover pipevine too. I grew it from seed this past winter. Takes awhile to get going.

I am going to give away a pipe vine baby at the plant trade for a door prize!

I had a softwood cutting that was rooting but, it seems to be failing now. One start has died already........ oh well, maybe next time.

They eventually send up more shoots. At least they do if they are trying to survive horrendous living conditions, lol.

Where did you find that this year? I looked all over for dutchmans pipe in May and June and no one had them.

I got mine at Saul's, a wholesale nursery. They have a location in Alpharetta that is open to the public on specific days I believe.

Vroomp and GGG, do you leave your Dutchmans Pipe gigantea in the ground and outside all winter?
I have tried it with the smaller ones but not the gigantea.

Yes. Mine is currently in a very sheltered area, but it's going out in the open. I will just cut it back, mulch it well with dry leaves and put a black plastic tree pot on it, hope for the best. I've been doing fine with that.

That is gorgeous. GGG I think it just may be my turn to win a door prize. But sadly I doubt I could over winter it in my zone 7 yard. Does anyone grow "Aristolochia fimbriata?" that is supposed to be hardy in 7-9. I would love to add some for the swallowtails. I have never seen any pipevines locally.

Aristolochia fimbriata is a good groundcover, and fairly easy from seed. I have one, just one growing now. VERY SLOWLY that germinated for me last year. I'll probably baby it until spring, and plant it under the brugs as a groundcover. Yes, Kathy, I am sure that if you plant the dutchman's pipe in an area that has your longest sun exposure, and isn't too dry, it will be hardy for you.
