About a month ago I was on my way to a customer's house along a little dirt road and the Aureolarias were in bloom everywhere. I'm not exactly sure which species they were, I guessed A. virginica. They were in such abundance that I can't imagine that many were somehow parasitizing any trees. Here is a shot from June 20....

I've never tried one myself. I have tried some of the Gerardias(Agalinis spp.) without any luck.

I am not growing any native foxglove.

I have seeds I tried to germinate with no luck, but I did save some to try to start in the freezer this fall.

Thanks gaalan, for the photo! They seem to be prolific along that roadside.
It's difficult to tell which species they are, but are most likely either A. virginica or A. flava. A. virginica will have pubescent(downy, hairy) stems and capsules(when present), while A. flava has smooth (glabrous) stem and capsules. A. flava is also more likely to be found along roadsides and in pine barrens, as well as in open mixed deciduous forests, than A. virginica. (Ref: Manual of the Vascular Flora of the Carolinas, Radford, Ahles & Bell).
A friend has A. virginica growing in his 20 ac., mostly deciduous forest, but they have not formed large colonies.
I am considering planting some in a morning sun exposure to compete with "Ugly Agnes" planted near my property line by the yokels nextdoor. (I already had a 4' evergreen hedge there).
