If they have burrows in the area, there is no mistaking their presence. I once owned a property on SSI and they burrowed underneath the A/C concrete pad and my back porch, leaving a huge pile of soil in each case.
You might check with your local DNR/Wildlife Resources office for advice. Link below for locating the office serving your area.
I didn't have any success keeping them away, but they eventually disappeared, probably the victim of a speeding vehicle on a nearby road.

i went outside the other night and an armadillo scared the sh** out of me.the only one i've met alive.a couple of days later ,i saw roadkill armadillo out by my driveway.i guess it was my friend.didn't wish him ill fate,but it startled me walking out back door and almost running into him.why do the buzzards swarm to armadillo kill much more than other roadkill?i have seen so many nasty buzzards on dead armadillo in road as to actually stop traffic.
