It is always exciting to find new treasures. Several years ago I also found some persimmons in my yard, identified not by fruit but by the flowers. The leaves are fairly non-descript and until I saw the flowers I wasn't quite sure what those plants were. I have not ever seen any fruit on mine, even after I saw it flower. And this year with the drought, I don't even think they flowered.

I would not worry about the black spot.

A couple of years ago I also found 2 small persimmon trees on our property. I was so pleased to see them. They caught my eye because they each had a few fruits on them. Their leaves also have a beautiful fall color.

I have quite a few persimmon trees on my property. They are loaded with persimmons this year and I don't water. One tree was spindle-like and toppled over in a bad storm about 3-4 years ago. I was disappointed until it grew back from the roots into a new healthy and beautifully shaped tree - xmas tree form w/dark green leaves. It's about 15+ feet high now.

I learned that you have to have both male and female trees in order to produce. Both seem to flower, but only females produce fruit, at least on my property.

Don't worry about the black spots. It doesn't seem to have any affect on mine.
