I imagine that enforcement varies by county/city. I said in another message that Sandy Springs said they were already tired of people calling to turn their neighbors in.

Last night I had the Cherokee Co. Water Dept. guy ring my door bell because I had been watering. I showed him the reciept showing I had the Lawn Doctor reseed my lawn.

My son has noticed someone from the water company is driving around dusk.

I guess they're working OT to catch some lawbreakers. Folks will have to get up at 4AM to water.

I also saw a Cherokee truck driving around but wasn't sure if that was the reason. It should be easy enough to catch folks using sprinklers, they usually overspray into the street and that lasts for several hours.

Here's hoping for rain later this week ....

Sharon, what did they say when you showed the receipt? A simple OK or did they call and verify or tell you that technically it wasn't really supposed to work that way? Did your guy look like a cross between Captain Hook and Steve Irwin? This person today was in a mid 90's white Chevy Lumina with an official seal on the door but it didn't look like it was for the county. I couldn't read it from where I was hiding- err I mean standing. :-)
I also wasn't sure because practically every house in the area has been getting their utilities marked so I wasn't sure if that was the reason.

The people in charge of the water management here really aren't too bright. Cut off water to Alabama and those endangered oysters and call it a day.

Sandy Springs is using a guy in a red truck with a yellow lamp on top. He seems to be patrolling the streets early morning and late afternoon/evening - including the weekends! I have not turned anyone in - yet, but if the guy down the street washes his car one more time i think i will have to. ( i have asked him nicely if he knows there is a watering ban on and he just smiled at me and kept washing his car). Walking the dog early in the morning i see signs that sprinklers have been used. Whilst i hate to see any plants die, i understand the need to reduce water consumption and as most people are complying feel that the others need to be told to quit watering. I was at Lake Allatoona last week and was driving up Hwy 41 over the 'lake'. Unfortunately there was no water there - but the grass was growing really well!

What about offices and nurseries with signs saying "Irrigation from Lake Water"?

I guess they don't give a hoot about local ecosystems as they pump the ponds dry for their FESCUE lawns.

Maybe they're trying to water in all that fertilizer for the bermudagrass. Which, I might add is actually allowed under the level 4 restrictions!

Since there are some people that would rather wash their cars and water their plants and lawns why not just put a water limit on each house that way if someone wants to skip showering for a couple of days so they can water their garden then why not?
If someone goes over the limit then Captain Hook can go turn off their water.
Who's to say my expenditure of indoor watering is any less wasteful than outdoor watering?

I never see anyone watering Bermuda or Centipede. It's just these office parks that plant Fescue. Also, the nurseries that shoot water into the air (overhead irrigation) at 11AM.

My point is more toward the depletion of habitat, not a commentary on turf choice. That's a different BB.

If you want to talk about depletion of habitat, you might start with avoiding invasive turfgrass with aggressive spreading habits. Your generalization about who waters what type of grass based on what you observed is not telling the whole story.

What is this the Lawn Forum? : P Before the water ban my neighbor (with bermuda) was watering his lawn fairly regularly. He also watered our driveway and set up a nice sized puddle in the drain off for my son to play in. I have a neighbor who has been watering daily for the last two weeks. I haven't said anything, because I'm assuming she's had seeding done or something. I just feel like it's irresponsible to reseed, sod, do major landscaping when we're in the midst of an extreme drought. To me they made a mistake in exempting this from the ban.

I wonder if the state and counties will rethink their attitudes on grey water. We could be doing much more than we are.

Is it irresponsible to shower once or twice a day? If you're seeding a lawn, you only need to water very briefly, about 5 minutes a few times a day just to keep the seed moist. And you only need to do that about 5-14 days. I take a shower that last about 15 mins, use 9 gallons a day in the dishwasher and about 9 gallons a day in the toilet. I'm not sure how many gallons in the washing machine. My indoor useage higher than starting a lawn or watering the landscaping once a week. Like
I said before they really aren't thinking this one through. Consumption is down but if someone needs to water outdoors, they're going to do it anyway.

I still see a lot of businesses and subdivisions watering lawns and entrances, many with water running along the curb!

They be doing so under the wide assortment of acceptable exemptions though.

I thought "total ban" meant everyone everywhere. What exemptions do these places have?

My frequently watering neighbor (the one who's watered every day for the last couple of weeks) waters for a couple of hours at a time each day. So, she's either drowning her new seed or got some other treatment.

Too much water is not what you want when seeding as the seeds will potentially wash away or rot.
