Sugarhill, some Chaste Trees bloom more than once a season. I think you found one of those. Good find. Mine re-blooms and is blooming now.

And HoneyGum SugarBush, the round-leaf vitex is listed as invasive in South Carolina. But you know what - I didn't buy a round-leafed vitex and I'm not growing it in South Carolina. But thanks anyway for trying to put a damper on my pleasure. If I can muster just the right tone of self-righteousness, I'll return the favor the next time you're excited about something.

I wasn't being critical.
There were some shrubs I brought home Friday that I was excited about and more than one of them turn out to be a pest plant when I got home. I had to decide what to do next. So I was joking around. Please forgive me if I came across as rude.

I have yellow lilies and a knockout rose under the vitex. The vitex color is echoed in the low growers around those plants: walkers low nepeta, and an alma potschke aster (to match Knockout). Also a few other yellows, and a carpet of lime green low growing oregano under all of that. The vitex and knockout "clash in a good way", if you know what i mean. I am also trying to grow an Earnest Markham clematis up and into the vitex but it's kind of dry there and the clematis isn't the happiest in this location!

GGG, that sounds beautiful. I was thinking about some nepeta as a groundcover, but I don't have much luck with nepeta blooming. I have read that it won't bloom well in rich soil, but the soil is about as far from rich as it can get. Not sure what the problem is. I never would have thought of knockouts - what a good idea. I'm moving a lot of plants out of the area where I'm putting the vitex. I wonder if I should leave the Niobe clematis to climb through it? Definitely can't use it if I put in knockout roses. Can you imagine how much that would clash?

Love the idea of lime green oregano. Always looking for ways to get more lime in the landscape. I have some ajuga that has finally settled into that spot. Hate the thought of moving it. Will have to hold a pot of lime something next to it to see how it looks. Sounds awful in my mind's eye. I'll bet it would look good with the knockout though. Especially those blue spires. Might leave the ajuga and forego the oregano.

Has anyone seen the pink colored Chaste tree? I had two of the purples that were ancient at my old farm. The house was about 120 years old so the trees weren't too much younger. We bought from the original family so they knew all the history of the plants.
