It does seem early. I don't remember a freeze before November in years and years. I'm ready for spring.

It is a few weeks early. Maybe the breeze will continue & frost will not form.

Seems early to me,too, but I can also remember having below freezing temperatures (28F) during the last days of September. If you live around here long enough, you will experience many instances of weather extremes. It seems to go with the territory.

The first year I moved here (2000) there was a hard frost in early October. I was surprised because it seemed early. Since then it's been more like November.

I had a low of 31F this morning which is the earliest freeze in my records, by one day.

Here are my dates for first freeze(32 or lower) since 1997....

1997: November 17 with 25F
1998: December 18 with 28F
1999: October 25 with 32F
2000: November 15 with 30F
2001: October 28 with 29F
2002: November 18 with 30F
2003: November 25 with 28F
2004: November 16 with 32F
2005: November 17 with 32F
2006: October 24 with 31F

I had a nice frost this morning of course. My first frost this year was October 15, which was the second earliest I've had.

The forecast is even colder for tonight. Then it warms back up. So those of you with tender plants still out, you only have one more night to cover them up.

My vinca annuals got frozen/frost bitten last night. They are toast!

The gingers got nipped last night. Anything that had flowers already open. This is a bummer as I've got some that haven't even bloomed yet! Anything that was even partially in bud I cut and brought in. The good thing about gingers is that they are easy to force open. The house smells incredible!
I also cut all the dahlias yesterday and brought them in. I didn't want to loose them. We are festooned with fragrance and flower.
