I was wondering the same thing....are we allowed to fill up bird baths.

I have used the AC water all summer for the bird bath and also for watering some of our plants. But, yes indeed- I will not let the birds and animals suffer for lack of water. Even in the winters, I carry jugs of water out to keep them filled.

Use containers to collect shower water while you're waiting for the water to reach the right temp.

I've been using that to water the plants, and it gets some soap in it. Screw it, I'm going to chug out water from my water cooler (we get 5 gal bottles delivered) to give the birds water.

I was concerned about this as well. We have three bird baths and there is a constant stream of birds, squirrels, chipmunks and neighborhood cats visiting them. My husband and I discussed it and decided we are going to openly clean and refresh the bird baths. There are people who have pets outdoors that they rightfully keep water out for. Several of our neighbors have fenced backyards with their pet dogs outside (they provide shelter for them). We view the wildlife at our baths and feeders as pets. Hopefully the authorities will agree. All they would have to do is look at our pitiful plants and shrubs dying to know there is no "outdoor watering" going on here.

Wow. It never occured to me the ban might apply to bird baths. Does anyone know the actual wording and interpretation of the state ordinance?

I could be wrong, but I can't imagine it would apply to birdbaths. I would try to clean it out as economically possible with water and then refill from a jug. I don't think they mean the critters, do they?

I didn't read every word of the ordinance, but the exceptions listed do not include birdbaths. They do include ornamental water features if they support "aquatic life." I didn't see a definition of "aquatic life," and the discussion was of fish not plants, but perhaps floating hardy water weeds in our baths would qualify.
