We need your prayers

This is not a gardening message, but many of you know us, so I wanted to let you know what we're going through. My eldest son, Evan, is at Scottish Rite suffering from Bacterial Meningitis. He'll be 3 in February. He's fighting for his life right now. He's had a few days (nights mostly) where we weren't sure he was going to make it. He's been so tough. There are updates from the doctors every day and many of them are so disheartening. Probable brain damage, he may lose tissue or possibly fingers, toes, or even limbs. His organs are all being supported. His brain is swollen. He's not stable enough to get a shunt in his brain to relieve the pressure, so we're praying the swelling will go down.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. I'll try to keep you posted. You can always click on my user name to send me email personally.

Thanks y'all,

Pam

Here's my home email, so you don't have to do the username thing: paemchen2@yahoo.com

    Thanks buford!

I have a daughter around the same age and can't even imagine how tough this is for y'all. I hope he makes a speedy recovery and will pray for him. Stay strong!

My cousin's grandson was in Scottish Rite this past summer going through something similar. He's at home now and, with a lot of physical therapy, doing well. I know it's a tough fight for your little boy, but he's in incredibly good hands at Scottish Rite. Everyone is pulling for you and for him.

That was tough to read. The incredible grief you must be going through. The doctors at Scottish Rite are miracle workers.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Oh, Pam! I'm so sorry. Your son is just so beautiful and precious and I'm so sorry you have to be going through all of this. I will keep you all in prayers,

Pam, our hearts go out to you and your family at this time.

Here is a poem I found, I hope it will comfort you:

Mommy please don't grieve for me
    Or cry unhappy tears,
I'm really happy where I'm at
    There's lots of family here.

But I promise I'll be waiting here
When it's time to meet again,
For now I'll be here with you
To help you heal and mend.

    Remember I'm an angel now
I'll watch you day and night,
It's my turn to take care of you
    You'll never leave my sight.

I know you think my time was short
    But please remember this,
Every time you feel the breeze
    I'm giving you a kiss.

I'll be the pretty scent you smell
    When flowers are in bloom,
I'll be the rain that makes things grow
    Beneath the spring time moon.

I'll be the one that holds you close
    When you are feeling sad,
And I'll always be right by your side
In good times and in bad.

I know you think I've gone away
    But really I'm not far,
For God has chosen me, you see
    To be your shooting star.

So make a wish and pray real hard
    And never give up faith,
Cause I am watching over you
To keep you warm and safe.

So mommy please don't grieve for me
    Cause really I'm just fine,
This is just a little pause
Until I see you next time.

My heart is so heavy for you and your family, Pam. And I believe with all my heart that the prayers from this group and others will help you.

I would like suggestions/ideas for what we can do for Pam.

Thank you all for your kind words. I love the poem, esh. I was wondering if I could send one of you a picture of Evan, and you could post it for me.
    Thanks,
    Pam

Here's the picture of adorable Evan. I imagine he is thrilled to have his picture posted for all the Georgia Gardeners to admire!

We should all plant yellow flowers this spring in his memory. Pam says those were his favorite.

Yellow flowers sound good. And I'll think about Evan when the daffodils come up this February.

    Pam,
We have never met because I am mostly a lurker on this site and haven't been to any of the exchanges, but I want you to know that everyone who reads these posts is now thinking of you and your family, especially your precious angel Evan. I am so deeply sorry for your loss.
We should all plant some yellow daffodils now in his memory.

    Pam,
I just now logged on since Wednesday and I'm speechless. I am so sorry. My heart goes out to you and your family, especially during this holiday season.
I'm praying for you and your family. May God bless you and be with you.

Was there any specific yellow flower that he loved?

He loved those big pom pom marigolds. He liked other flowers, but he seemed to go for the sunshiney ones.

We've got the appointment with the funeral home today. I'll let you know the times of arrangements later today. We're thinking a Friday visitation and the funeral Saturday morning.
    Pam

The visitation for Evan is 5-7 this Friday at Wages and Sons on Hwy 29 in Lawrencville. The funeral is at First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville at Hwy 29/Langley Rd. We'll have the burial after the funeral at the cemetery on Hwy 29 (about a mile from the church), and return to the church for a reception.

Thanks again for your prayers and kind words.

    Dearest Pam,

I have planted yellow irises yesterday to honor your little boy. As I was planting those in a ground, I could imagine his happy smile.
Being a mother of two boys, I can not pretend to imagine your pain. I pray for you and your beautiful son, and ask God to give you peace... I KNOW he is a good place.

    Blessings,
    ~Natalie

    Pam,

I mostly lurk and learn here but I just had to add my condolences and let you know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers, also. I'm actually in SC and am going to plant some of the minature yellow daffodils in honor of Evan.

May the blessing of comfort and peace be yours,
    Cherie

Pam, I am so very sorry to hear about the tragic loss of your son. I have not been at the site lately and was unaware until today he was ill. No parent should have to watch their child suffer like he did and my thoughts are with you and your family in this trying time. Please let us all know if there is anything we may be able to do for you and your family.
    My most sincere condolences,
    Brad

Pam, I'm so so sorry to hear the loss of Evan. He's such a good little boy, those deep blue eyes, soft hair, and chuby cheeks .. sigh .. I'll pray for you and your family. Take good care of you and your family. Evan will be smiling at you from heaven.

Pam, I have been away from the site for a while and returned to hear of your loss. As usual, these gardeners rallied around with great support. We lost a precious grandson suddenly several years back and I do know how wrenching the loss is. His name was Devin and he was three.

I will keep your family in my prayers. God be with you.

    Pam,
I just read this post today & felt shock when I saw your son passed away. I didn't know Evan, but I have a 2 little ones & can't even imagine the grief you must be going through. I am so very sorry for your loss.

May God bless your family & help you to get through your sorrow.

    With sincerest sympathy,
    Diane

Deepest sympathy to your family. He was a precious child.
I can't imagine how you must feel, but I do know how it feels to lose a son.

The only comfort I can offer is that, in time, things will be different.
Maybe not better, but different than you're experiencing at this moment.

Rose Kennedy said that time doesn't heal, but that you form scars that are easily picked open.
That has been my experience, too.

    Nell

Thank you for all of your words of comfort. Thank you, too, to those who emailed. We'll get through this with the support of good friends, neighbors, and even folks we've never met! I'm hoping my next post will be inquiring about what to plant in Evan's memorial garden.

This Sunday is National Children's Memorial Day. So, light a candle and remember the little ones who didn't have the chance to grow up.
    Thanks everyone,
    Pam
