I saw a splendid hickory today - can't miss that particular shade of yellow. And some spectacular shrubby sassfras on the side of the road - delightful orangey/red.

One of my favorite games is to try and identify trees this time of year by looking at the fall color. Some are very distinctive. The dogwoods are a nice burgundy red this year.

QQ, I hope you'll post some pictures from your fall color search again this year; we've enjoyed them in years past.

I'm pleasantly surprised. In spite of the drought, the majority of trees look fine. As you say, many are going through their change. I see all the Dogwoods are changing together right now.

Sweetgum looks good, and even Tulip Poplar is hanging on. There is also a good lesson, as I survey the Leyland Cypress dying out; natives are the plants best suited to their locales.
