Sugarhill I've never planted commelina because there is a type of commelina that grows weedy here. I think it might be the very same plant you mention...it has a beautiful bright blue flower but takes over just like wild geranium does.

Can Devil's Bit: chamaelirium luteum grow in our heat and humidity, or is it just for more mountainous regions? They had it at the native plant sale in Ashville, NC but the seller wasn't so sure it would do well here so I passed on it. It is a great plant.

Absolutely chamaelirium luteum does well here. We find it on rescues in the metro area a fair amount. The other common name for it is Fairy Wand. I have it in my garden and it does great.

Someday someone will realize that if they form a gardener's lonely hearts club there will be lots of interest. And now back to discussing plants (that I never heard of)

GGG, I'm wondering if commelina isn't the weed with the pretty blue flower that I keep pulling out of my back yard. It looks suspiciously like the picture of commelina in the native plant book.

BobbyGil, I garden in shade. But if you're willing to take down the ugly trees in my back yard, I'm willing to garden in sun. Vines are optional.
