You got me whats leathers?We bought a windmill from an amish man,they came installed.Did a great job probably do repairs and such.

It is a rather involved and difficult process and unless you have the equipment to do it with you can't. But here goes: Disconnect the sucker rod from the windmill. Then with block and tackle start pulling the pipe. When you reach a pipe joint, unscrew it and unscrew the sucker rod also. The sucker rod joint should me near the pipe joint. Leave the sucker rod inside the pipe joint and lean that joint up against the tower. Pull another joint and unscrew just like the last one. Depending on how deep your well is, you will finally get all the pipes out of the well. At the bottom of the bottom joint of pipe is the cylinder. Unscrew the cylinder from the joint of pipe and unscrew the top off of the cylinder. You can then pull the short piece of sucker rod and the leathers out of the cylinder. It is fairly simple after you get this far. Remove the old leathers and install the new ones. Put the pipes back in the same way they came out. Number them if necessary. You will also have to have some type of holding device to hold the pipe and keep it from falling to the bottom of the well while you hook your block & tackle to the next joint.

My DH printed out your post He seems to think that the leathers are on the end of the sucker rod, as the well is a new one (less than four years)

Yes, the leathers are on the end of the sucker rod and inside the cylinder at the bottom.
