With warmer weather approaching for us Northerners many of us are beginning to make our must have Hoyas lists. No matter where you are lets have some fun and list our most coveted Hoyas. This could be a fun way to see what others tastes in Hoyas is and who knows maybe even to connect for a friendly trade.

Here is my list

Hoya acicularis

Hoya collina

Hoya kloppenburgii

Hoya subcalva

Hoya sp flat stem

I think all the ones I want to try to get/am getting this year are pretty common ones.

    Australis spp. tenuipes
Pubicalyx Pink Silver, Red Buttons and Royal Hawaiian Purple
Shepherdii (should be here next week!)
    Multiflora/javanica
    Compacta
    Carnosa

All are cuttings except shepherdii, which is coming from Gardino's. All the cuttings are from members on here. Thanks everyone!

    2. H. blashernaezii..... " " " " "
    3. H. kast..............." " " " "
    4. H. inflata........... " " " " "

Ugh, I am so tired of cleaning and organizing, but it's not done yet! Taking a break...

    Planning on getting:

    australis ssp. Tenuipes
    cagayanensis
    calycina
    CFM-8
    villosa

    Might get:

    lambii
    lobbii
    nonvariegated macrophylla

    Really want:

    More room, with more windows.

Nice choices Patrick, Hoya inflata in one I would love to grow so I might have to consider that one myself. I recognize many of the Hoyas from a certain price list, are you also planning on ordering from Ted Green?

Quinnfyre I promise you that you will not be disappointed, move Hoya lambii to the top of your list!

Hoya CFM-8 has a new name so if you get that one you can put Hoya fitchii on the label.

Everyone already knows what I'm getting, but oh well, here they are:

    1) Meliflua
    2) Meliflua ssp. fraterna
    3) Lacunosa 'Royal Flush'
    4) Australis ssp. tenuipes ÂLisaÂ
    5) Bordenii
    6) Sigillatis
    7) sp. Square
    8) Villosa

All ordered, except lacunosa 'Royal Flush'. I'm getting that locally--I hope...

Wow!!! I just saw that H. fitchii on a website yesterday and put it on my "must have one day" list. I don't even know where you would buy it. The website was informational with lots of pics, not anything for sale. It's a beauty!!!

    Tish

Yes, Mike...I ordered from Dr. Green months ago, he'll ship in the spring. You have some interesting ones listed, too...but, I'm NOT going to even check them out!! LOL! Quinnfyre...I agree with you...more space is greatly needed...I've already put two additions onto my house...there's no where else to add on!! Tish, where did you find sp. square? OOPS...no, don't tell me!! Patrick

Mine is very short...but sweet :o)

    1.Australis ssp. tenuipes ÂLisaÂ
2.Callistophylla(one of the nicer leaf ones hopefully)

Patrick...you have to get Sp.square( you will love it)! Top five in my opinion :o)

Nice list everyone...but I think Quinn is absolutely right. Need more room!

I'm pretty sure I have a rooted cutting of CMF-8(thanks to a very nice friend)...will have to change the name. Mike, does that mean the old name is not valid anymore? I mean, I know I can still use it, but I guess I really need to change the label right? Thanks!

I would really like to get a cutting of Praetorii, followed by:

    Siariae
    Tjadasmalangensis
    Magnifica
    Callistophylla (on hold)
    Guppyi
    Sussuela
    Mindorensis
    Coronaria

Those are my most wanted. And I'm always willing to work out a trade or two.

H.fitchii formally cv.CMF-8 is a striking plant with it's striped leaves. I bought mine from a dealer that had it labled as H.cagayanensis. I had it about a year or so when I found out it was cv.CMF-8 when I received H.campforifolia and was trying to ID it(Thanks Pug). All three of these plants were said to look very much alike. However the true cagaynensis has solid green leaves and placed next to the other two the difference is obvious.

As I said before, some of these will be going to friends of mine. I also want to try and get either fungii or motoskei.

    Brad AKA Moonwolf

That's right Puglvr Hoya fitchii is the proper name to use now. The name Hoya CMF-8 is just a collection/catalog name that was given to the plant when it's exact ID was still in question.

    Mike

Funny, that the hoya formerly known as CFM-8 and cagayanensis look similar, considering I want them both. Apparently that look appeals to me.

Mike, the others are at the top of the list because I have some potential trades going. Or are ones that I've been wanting for a while. But I do think I want lambii, as it seems everyone has great things to say about it.

Where is the room for all I want? I rent, can't build on additions, ha. I wish. Also, there's nowhere to build additions to, the downside to rowhouses. That's amusing, now you have me thinking about theoretical additions that I can't make happen anyway. I need a wormhole to a second house with lots of windows. (Is that nerdy?)

    Quinn,

Not nerdy! Never stop dreaming... I play the lottery reguarly figureing "SOMEbody has to win" - why not me? I love my little house that has lots of windows, and am grateful for my little greenhouse off my kitchen, and I'd rather live nowhere else in the range that I can afford. BUT, were I to win the lottery and money wasn't an issue, a bigger house (enough money to afford a regular maid service, because I have enough trouble taking care of the square footage I have now!) with even more windows AND a bigger greenhouse would be in my future. Oh, and more time to spend with my plants!

As for this year's wishes, villosa and dasyantha are at the top and those will be forthcoming when the weather warms from kind members here. I'm trying to keep my wish list short this year because when all my newest ones really start to grow, I will probably have to start selling off some that are similar to others and/or stop buying. A few that I might pursue...

    elliptica
    globiflora
    rubida

I see an eBay seller, Plumrindr, that sells a lot of nice looking ones. Anyone have a comment about this seller?

Everyone's lists are impressive!!! I can't say at this point that there are any hoyas in particular that I MUST HAVE !!! Over the past year or so my MUST have list has been fulfilled so I am now just hoping and waiting to hear anything about the possibility of ordering from Iris Marie Liddle. If and when that happens i'll just be ordering a variety from the NOID section of the list.

    dmichael

DMichael I have heard from a fellow Canadian friend and Hoya lover who is planning a group order that orders will be filled by Iris Marie this year. There has yet to be a catalog issued and I did check Stemma recently as well. I will post the catalog here when I hear about it.

    Mike

Thanks Mike, I really appreciate that info. The thought had crossed my mind to give Iris Marie a call and then I remembered the time I called David once before and ended up paying well over $50 for a 3 minute phone call!!! I figured sooner or later someone would know if there was going to be any orders from them this year so it's great to know that she will be carrying on the business.

I just got off the phone with the people at Farmtek ordering an add on to my gh. The current length is 30 ft and I will be adding another 24 ft to the rear end of the building,as there seems to be no end in sight to the hoya collecting and space has just run out!! The new addition should be here in 8-12 days but I won't be able to get it up and running until at least mid April as we run the chance of freezing temps until then.

    Sorry for hijacking the thread

DMichael that's great that you will be expanding your greenhouse. With 400 Hoyas You must have almost every Hoya that exists in collections plus many of their varieties as well. I am sure you will find some more must haves once you have all that free space in the greenhouse. You will be able to grow your plants into nice specimens and really appreciate them.

Ohhh.....the ones I want the most are:

    inflata
    lambii
    telesmoides
    megalantha
    griffithii
    benguentensis
    chlorantha var. tutuilensis
    hypolasia
    thomsoni
    vitiensis Fiji Yellow
    waymaniae

I, too, am open to trades!
    Kelly

I have tried hoya inflata at least 3 times now and apparently there is some trick to growing it that I have not figured out just yet as I have successfully managed to loose all 3 of them!!

Mike,i'm finding myself getting really into the NOID section of DL's list now. I am very certain that if the Liddles had ever printed a color catalog including pics of leaves,my MUST have list would be ongoing!!!

I hear you DM my last order form the LiddleÂs was almost entirely of unidentified plants and I was very impressed with what I received. Reading the catalog descriptions just does not translate into a good mental image for me. I find that pages like Lacanosa.se have photos of many of the unidentified plants and that is how I made my decisions last year.

Denise...just a quick question...did you receive any information on that Thai vendor? He DOES have some very interesting hoyas for sale/bid...very tempting. I just was looking at all the hoyas he has up for bidding...very impressed...and I was surprised that these are actually rooted plants. Let us know if you hear anything about this vendor...I'm not really thrilled with the plants I received from Thailand....I've apparently lost 6 of them...out of 25 purchased. Thanks, Patrick

Hello all, I have purchased from this seller several times. I have not had a problem with them getting here and they arrived in very good condition. I soaked them in warm water and some sugar and they did just fine. They arrive with some roots. I had ordered one late fall, to late really, but thought I would take a chance, when it arrived it looked like it had frozen. He offered to replace it or refund, my choice. Now mind you they have not bloomed so can't be positive they are true to their name, but they are activly growing. Just my .02 cents worth.

    H. acicularis
    H. burtoniae

    H. inflata
    H. lambii
    H. spartiodes
    H. telosmoides
    H. sp. Linus

I may need to start putting two or more different plants in a pot to have enough room to grow all of the plants I am interested in.

    Mike,
I don't know of any that could be guaranteed to fit the bill. Blooming can be a crapshoot! I recently gave away a carnosa with a old peduncle. Literally within days it threw out buds and is now blooming! Wouldn't have guessed it would have bloomed this early! Most of mine have taken a year or more to bloom.
Good luck in finding one though!
    Kelly

Hey Tish, you can get H. fitchii from Mr. Green, that is where I got mine from. It is very healthy and it was about an 8 inch cutting. It didn't take long to root and has done well, I got it late Nov. It noticed the other day that it is finally starting to put on new growth.

How's everyone's wish lists going? I am now the happy owner of a rooted australis ssp. tenuipes and a calycina cutting. The australis is very vigorous looking, and the calycina is so nice and fuzzy. My wish list for this year has also modified slightly:

    finlaysonii Ripple Leaf
    villosa
    sp. Square
    blashernaezii
    CFM8/fitchii
    cagayanensis
    lambii
    benguetensis

In no particular order. I also have var obovata and tsangii cuttings coming to me shortly. I don't know where I will fit all these hoyas, if I were to obtain them all. I guess it will have to be a rearranging party - if I call it a party, will that make it more fun?? ; P

I managed to track down all of the plants on my list except for Hoya platycaulis. I am still waiting on three orders to arrive with one sitting in customs for the past few days.
I have been potting up last years plants from the Liddles so that I can have more room on my light shelves and to give the year old plants some room and a trellis to grow on.

I even broke down and got a few of the really tiny flowered species from the Acanthostemma section, a smooth leafed DS-70 look alike from Sulawesi and one with absolutely tiny flowers from Sumatra.

I have ordered all on my list (and more) except the vitiensis Fiji Yellow. Some are here already...sadly I can always think of more that I want!
Oh, where to keep them all when/if they actually get big! And, yes, Quinnfyre, if we call it a party it will be more fun!

Mike, do you root in the same mix you grow in?
