Siam Ruby Bananas

In January, 2008, Siam Ruby Bananas will be available (tissue cultures)at a low price. These beauties used to cost $99, now are selling for $35, but as baby TC plants, the price is listed as $3.50 each. TC bananas are disease free and are clones of the mother plant.

I'd like to order a flat (72 plants). I cannot use 72 more Bananas myself. (G)

Are any of you interested in this beautiful, red Banana plant? If so, I'll have plenty to trade.

Lisa

Lisa, if there is a "list" (and they are still available) please add me on for two pups.

    Thanks,
    Scott

Joycrick, yes they are from AgriStarts. They called me yesterday to tell me that they WILL be available early January, not February as I was told in an email. That is fine with me!(G)

If anyone else wants to order a flat, the order form is on the AgriStarts website.

CindeeA, they are supposed to have delicious fruit per the above link.

So far, we are still under 72, but I want some for myself too!(G)

Lisa, add a seond one for me. I have a neighbor she wants one too :-)

thanks so much for 'organizing' this.

I'd love a few! Any left on your flat or are they all spoken for?

    Hi Lisa,

Will you please add me to your list for 2 or 3.

    Thanks, Cliff

P.S. The Heliconia from you at Trefrog's is doing well. Thanks again.

    Hi Lisa,

I previously asked for a couple of Siam Rubies, but if available I would like 4 as a friend of mind would like 2. Either purchase or trade. I will be away for the next 2 weeks so will not be able to let you know what I have to trade till after then.

    Many thanks.

    Count me in please.

Holey Moley, Lisa, you need an accountant to keep track of this list...lol

Good luck and thanks for the offer.

Looks gorgeous! Lisa, please put me down for three if there are any available. PLMK. I will gladly buy or trade.

    Anna

Hi Lisa. I'd be very interested and will buy or trade as well. Of course, as a late poster, I understand if there's none left :)

I'll take 5 if still available

Someone else needs to order a flat! There won't be enough. With so many interested, it shouldn't be any trouble to find homes for another flat.(G)

I'm picking out spots on the property to plant them. Wouldn't they make a brilliant, gaudy, flashy hedge?? I may have to dig up some Green/Reds and pop in some Siam Ruby Nanas to liven things up.

There is a Banana "hedge" here in Jupiter Farms that looks to be 100' long or more. It is STUNNING! If they were bright burgandy-red, instead of rich green, it would be causing accidents as folks stared while driving by(G).

Should we buy a flat for zone 9/central florida and split the price? I would be interested

    Olya

I am in East Orlando, but for me it would be way more convenient to get the two pups from Lisa, since I see Kathy frequently and she could pick it up for me.

    Evelyn

Ok, I'm sure I'm too late to request one, huh? If you do have enough, I just need one or if anyone else is planning on buying a flat, let me know. Thanks.

    Pamela

Lisa, I love your idea of a banana hedge. I bet it will be stunning, if you do it. ;o)

Hey, I'm willing to buy a flat if necessary, then we'll have all enough. Let me know when and where...and if.

    Well have I been sleeping?
If any chance me too. They are gorgeous.

    Felix

Vaodiva, please feel free to order a flat. The order form is on AgriStarts website. With all the interest so far, one flat is not enough!

Maybe you can place them with those in zone 9?

Lisa, you sure are an instigator! LOL.

Ok, I looked on their site. They're about 15 miles away from me and I can go pick up, so no problem there. After looking at the price list, though, you have to buy at least on flat, which'll get kinda steep. I know someone who might (maybe) be able to help me get some for a little less. Update soon.

Add me to the list. I'm interested in purchasing 5 (or maybe more) of the baby tissue cultures if they are relatively close to the price gcmastiffs originally mentioned.

I can pick up in Orlando, or I will pay shipping if they need to come from elsewhere.

    Thanks!

Some of their Colocasia and Alocasia look so nice too!
I think there is enough of us in zone 9 and zone 10 to take care of two flats of Siam Ruby...I think we should start a database/spreadsheet..

    Olya

I'll make the spreadsheet if no one else has already done one.

Ok, my buddy could do nothing for me. I'm willing to pick them up and get them to whomever wants them in Z9. I suppose if 7 people wanted 10 each that'd be easy, but a database would be a really good idea. If you'd like to start one that'd be great!

Olya, I agree with you. I was looking at some of the black ones for my shady areas.

Ok, here's my first attempt at keeping track for the flat-buyers. This list is sorted by our GW nicknames. Maybe everyone could check the list and fill in their blanks? Then I could put out a list with accurate totals on it.

I am closer to Lisa, zone 10 and wanted one or two. Wanda is Stuart and zone 10.

I want at least 12. Last time I added it up I got 71, with only 1 left for me(G). That's not going to work! I've also gotten private emails asking for these Bananas. I don't want anyone left out, so someone needs to step up and order another flat. I did squeak out $250+ for 72 plants, but $500 is too much right now.

    Lisa

    Put me down for "3"...

    Thanks,

    Tropicalfreak

Lisa, tell me where to send my check, you should not have to foot the bill for everyone. email me at cindeeaddessi@aol.com and your check, plus what ever needed in shipping and handling will be sent. I asked for 2 plants.

Lisa, tell me where to send my check. email me at salm145@embarqmail.com and your check, plus what ever needed in shipping and handling will be sent immediately. I asked for 3 plants. I really appreciate what you are doing.

First of all treefrog only wants fruit so he is off the list ! ( sticking my tongue at him and making a fart noise)

    Lisa should get her 12............
    Everybody should get 1................
and if you want more than 1 then you can get 2.................??????????
I guess it depends on how many people have emailed her privately.

    That should keep everybody happy.
Since I live down the street from Lisa I have offered to help her pack and ship.

    Remember....they make babies ! Right Lisa ?

Am I too late to order 2?
    barb

Lisa, I will come help too, if you want me to. JLMK.

But for my 2 cents I think you shouldn't have to ship them. If people want them, they should come pick them up. It is a lot of work to ship that many plants out. Maybe some people can pick them up for others just get your money up front.:o) Since you are doing this you set the day and time for pick up that's good for you.

I bet you are sorry you started this.

Wow, this got crazy, didn't it? My first intention was to order a flat and share them at swaps. But then ya'll started offering to buy them. I really didn't expect such interest!

I already ordered and paid for 1 flat. Please do *not* send me money! These plants won't even get here until January!

If someone in the North/Central area is willing to order another flat, why not ask those folks closest to send money to him/her, so that person will not have to lay out his/her own cash? With 2 flats, I think we can all be happy!

    Lisa

    Lisa,

Seems like Olya is willing to purchase the 2nd flat for Zone 9, but when I revised the Zone 9 only list is looks like we only have 40 plants spoken for. You could probably use the remaining 32 plants for Zone 10. How could we manage to do this without too much shipping effort on her part? Ship 32 plants to you and Zone 10's pick up from you?

This does seem a bit crazy, but I'd like to make it easier for you and Olya any way that I can and still get my hands on those bananas! :)

Oh, and here's the updated, zone 10 only list:

    ZONE---GW NAME---HOW MANY
    10-----annafl------------------3
    10-----barbcoleus-------------2
    10-----butterflygardener-------2 or 3
    10-----chrisaggie--------------5
    10-----cindeea----------------2
    10-----coffeemom-------------? ? ?
    10-----gcmastiffs--------------12
    10-----growgrow--------------? ? ?
    10-----jupiterplants------------1
    10-----katkin------------------? ? ?
    10-----kelpie473--------------2
    10-----lady--------------------? ? ?
    10-----pamelainfl--------------1
    10-----trini1-------------------? ? ?
    10-----tropicalfreak-----------3
    10-----vireyafl----------------4
    10-----wanda662-------------1 or 2
    10-----wanna run faster--------? ? ?

I think Lisa should let us know what it will cost for each banana pup, shipping by priority mail and a small amount for her trouble. Folks could send what is due in December so she has a definite idea of what people want. I don't think this violates the rules of the Garden Forum. She is actually ordering FOR US and splitting the order not selling. Plans change and what people want in September may not be the same as what they want in December or January. And Olyagrove could do the same thing for people in zone 9.

    Lisa,

Subtract kelpie473 from that list - they've moved over to the zone 9 list. It looks like zone 9 wants about 48 plants and your zone wants about 50 plants, according to just the two lists and not any personal requests made of you by e-mail. I hope this is somehow helping and not confusing the issue.

I wanted more that just one. I held back so everyone could enjoy them. I don`t think we will have any problem going thru the 72 plants

I was looking at the website and saw another banana i kinda like................

I'd like to have two Lisa. They are such a beautiful plant. Let me know when you will need money.

There are approximately 56 plants requested on the Zone 9 list (separate thread). Below is an updated list for Zone 10, again, this doesn't include whoever e-mailed Lisa directly.

    ZONE---GW NAME---HOW MANY
    10-----annafl------------------3
    10-----barbcoleus-------------2
    10-----butterflygardener-------2 or 3
    10-----chrisaggie--------------5
    10-----cindeea----------------2
    10-----coffeemom-------------? ? ?
    9------floridays----------------2
    10-----gcmastiffs--------------12
    10-----growgrow--------------? ? ?
    10-----jupiterplants------------2
    10-----katkin------------------? ? ?
    10-----lady--------------------? ? ?
    9------msmarion---------------2
    10-----pamelainfl--------------1
    10-----trini1-------------------? ? ?
    10-----tropicalfreak-----------3
    10-----vireyafl----------------4
    10-----wanda662-------------1 or 2
    10-----wanna run faster--------? ? ?

There's a couple of zone 9's on here, because it's easier for them to pick up plants from Lisa. Looks like this Zone 10 list is pretty close to 55 plants requested. Lisa, will you need any of the 2nd flat to supply plants to everyone that's requested them via e-mail? Are we anywhere close to needing to say no more are available?

If it's ok, I'll move over to the Tampa/ Orlando group since I'm a lot closer to them. That will even things out a bit better I think. Thank-you.

    Anna

Would it help with shipping if Mine, BarbC and Lady all receive them in one shipment? I will be glad to be the recepient since I do not work and will be happy to deliver to my 'girls" on the west coast.

I received my Siam Ruby Banana today from brians botanicals. I am very excited about growing this beautiful plant. I'll post pictures when I can.

Chrisaggie, do you mean a flat for our community distribution
or for yourself. I'm feeling confuse here, LOL.
Help me out here would you please.
    Felix

Lisa I will help in any way I can. I never intended not to pay for any I might be able to get. I can send you some $$ to help out with the intial cost and shipping.

Please add me to the list!
    I'd like 4.
    zone 9

    Thank you!!!

    Thanks Lisa for doing this!!!
I am extremely happy with one, or two (if you need to find home for more). I can come to pick them up, or help you with the shipping as well.

I just got one for now to keep me happy. It's about 30" tall. I would still love to get some from this order if possible.

    Hi Lisa,

I would still like 4 plants if possible, but I live near you so I can pick them up and I can help you with any packing and shipping. I also go to Miami about every 2 weeks usually on a Wednesday so I could transport plants south if anyone wants to meet me somewhere near the turnpike.
