Good or Bad frog

Its definitely a bad frog for pooping on my grill, and it scared me half to death, but can someone tell me if its the poisonous one. It was big. But I was too afraid to get close...I know its stupid but I have this fear of bugs and slimy things in my hair or touching me at all.

I think its a cuban tree frog...this means its not poisonous right?

Trini it looks like a tree frog to me. It isn't harmful. You'll know the buffo toad or cane toad when you see it, it will be the biggest frog ever!

Maybe the frog in question is not good or bad, just a little naughty.... :)

I do agree with trinigemini, could be a possible tree frog. The picture is not that clear, so hard to tell for sure.

This is a Cuban treefrog...BAD. Bad, bad, bad. Not poisonous, but very destructive to our native treefrogs and anoles. "Whackety-whack...don't talk back." *grin* (For those of you too young to remember, that's a paraphrase from an old rock n roll song.)

Marca - you are too funny~

Now whenever I see a frog, I'll be thinking that song, or that song's phrase with a Whackety instead of Yackety.

How does the rest go? Is it appropriate to sing the whole song while whacking away?

I would gladly whack it, however I'm terrified of it jumping on me. Whats the best way to kill it? I'm sure it will be back.

Best way to kill it: capture and freeze. Seriously. Nice and tidy, you don't even have to touch it, just shoo it into a tupperware and close it up quick. When it's frozen, dump it in the garbage.

I'm told it's the only thing that will work with bufos, though we once managed to stab one with a pike, cut its head off with a shovel and generally mutilate it until it died. I happened to be under the deck crawling around on my stomach cleaning out stuff the previous owner left down there when I saw him. So I yell for the dear patient boyfriend to come RIGHT NOW. He assumes I'm snakebit and comes running. When he figures out what I'm yelling about (and where on earth I am,) he gets the pike and I start shoving sticks and two-by-fours in the direction of dinner-plate-sized toad, trying to scare it out through the lattice on the side of the deck. Good thing the previous owner left lumber under there. Each time the beast goes out, whack! But he's a hardy fellow, and he just squishes his wounded dinner-plateness back through the lattice and heads my way. Meanwhile, a cat decides to get involved, so I've got to hold the cat back to make sure he doesn't come in contact with his poisoned-dinner-plateness. Both dogs lose their minds at that point, barking as if the world were about to end. Neighbors are wondering what on earth we're doing this time. I'm yelling things like "here he comes! get him! stab him! Ah, you missed him. Oh no, he's coming at me!" All of this while I writhe around on my stomach under the deck. It was quite a scene. But I can say, with enough effort and the proper garden tools, you can kill bufos.

Susannah that is my biggest nightmare come to life. I refuse to crawl under anything. Absolutely won't do it. I have to say though that picturing you in the situation is kind of funny :-)Well if my dog was stuck somewhere I'm sure I would fight my way through my fear. Frogs freak me out, so do snakes. I still don't like spiders but as long as they stay up high I leave them alone. I've even gotten better about just moving them somewhere else. One early morning around 2 AM I took the dog out and walked straight into a spider web. I came screaming into the house because I felt it in my hair. I always feel like creepy things are going to get caught in my hair.

I used to be really afraid of snakes, but I've gotten so I fish them out of the pool and the cat's mouth pretty easily. Really, I have to be the one to deal with them. The boyfriend is so completely color blind a green mamba and a black racer would look exactly alike to him.

I haven't been brave enough to even try to ID snakes. I just walk away and hope they leave. Thankfully I've only seen only baby snakes thus far. You are a much braver woman than me. :-)

SusieQ, feel free to sing the whole song whilst whacking away. The important thing is to JUST SAY NO to Cuban Treefrogs, and whacking them works for me. I've heard that freezing them is very painful for them as their blood slowly crystalizes. It is no longer recommended by the experts. A dab of Orajel on top of their heads will kill them for sure. (This is for the CTF's, not the Cane toads. Don't know how to kill those things...I would think a shotgun would do it. Or maybe a light saber? Heck, just go straight for the flame thrower!)

Just be sure you don't kill any of our dwindling native treefrogs or any of our very beneficial NATIVE bufos, in particular bufo terrestris, or southern toads.
